Boy, you really know how to cheer a guy up. Ya thanks. But I did a little research. I am fully convinced I need to take the time to let it fully heal befor I get back on it, for the bone and the tendons. I don't want problems in the future. How's the leg now? |

It's been a couple of weeks, how's the healing? What do you use to keep mobile? A guy at work broke his foot and had this cool little scooter he kneeled on to get around. |

I can't put any weight on the foot, and I'm not supposed to move it too much. I have a "walking boot" we lovingly call Roboboot but I don't use it to walk with. I have crutches to get around with which are a pain in the ass. It is hard to carry anything. To try to stay in shape I have been swimming. hopefully this will keep my leg limber and "strong". I have noticed my leg is shrinking from lack of use. I will need therapy to get back to normal which may mean lots of bike riding. I have a Doctors appointment tomorrow to see how it is healing, I will post results. The scooters look cool but they are like $200.00. If anyone has one I could borrow, that would be cool. |

^^^ Sounds like you're taking care of it well Tim. I can think of several people on DT who also need some therapy to get back to normal... As for the crutches, try ziptying a bottle cage on there for your libation of choice. That and a backpack helps a lot with the no free hands thing. Enjoy the swimming! |

Yeah, do whatever you can to prevent your muscles from atrophying, but without effing up your foot recovery. |

I have a walker left over from my hip replacement. You can use it if you need it. |

I have been wearing cargo shorts to carry stuff. What I have truoble with is plates of food and stuff that can spill. As for swimming, the pool is 85 deg . If anyone is near mission trails or Cowles Mt and wants to stop by for a swim let me know. Bring beer or meat to help with my recovery. mongooseboy wrote: I have a walker left over from my hip replacement. You can use it if you need it. Thanks but I'm ok with the crutches, I just plan my trips to get the most out of each. |

How did your doctor appointment on 8/15 go? Will you be back in black on Da Bomb before long? |

I am fully convinced I need to take the time to let it fully heal befor I get back on it, for the bone and the tendons. I don't want problems in the future. How's the leg now? A lot of bones in the foot near the calcaneus have such poor vascular supply that they can be very slow to heal, even if they are pinned. A bone stimulator worn 8 hours a day, or even just a strong flexible magnet applied inside the boot over the bone, for 12 hours or so at a time, can make that possibility more of a probability. I know, because I been there, done that, although in a slightly different manner. Oh and right-on regarding the swimming. Once I accepted the no-weight-bearing bit, I took to swimming. Got a pair of those little 'Zoomers' fins that the racers wear for some added resistance, and I was able to keep the leg muscles pretty much intact for that 6-month period of my life. |
