If anyone is interested, Sunday morning road ride, east county.

Pretty flexible on route but looking at 50ish miles. Leave from MTRP visitors center area, head to Alpine, Flynn Springs road, Viejas, or thereabouts.

Not too fast, not too slow, in the 14-17 avg range (depending on climbs)

6:30-7ish departure and back for the 10am football games

Can't do it tomorrow. Post up a little earlier next time and I'll do my best to make it work. Got out on the road this morning for the first time in six months and it was alot more fun than I remember it being. Guess I really needed a break . . . .

What's your route to Alpine?

I'm in the middle of some house projects so I am squeezing things in while I can. Haven't had the roadie out in a while so I want to put some time in.

Alpine route depends on how I feel and how much I want to climb. Either down and out Dehesa road to tavern and loop around down through Harbison Canyon.

or
Mission Gorge though Lakeside to old hwy 80 to Alpine Blvd and tool around, depending on how much time.

Or...

I just head east for a coule of hours and where I end up I end up, then turn around. More than likely when I am solo this is what I do. My directions and short attention span usually lead to me not sticking to static routes.

Probably just take it easy tomorrow out old 80 past Flinn Springs and up to Alpine Blvd.

It's been a while since I've ridden east from my house. When I ride out in that area, I usually drive over to Rancho San Diego and start my ride somewhere over by Singing Hills Golf Course or Steele Canyon Golf Course. The ride to Cabrillo National Monument is fun, and the ride to La Jolla Cove is even better.

Bryan_UCSD and I rode to Cabrillo National Monument on Sunday from Eastlake. I wouldn't call that a challenging route, but it was fun.

Agreed -- it's just so scenic, especially early in the morning. Before they moved the entrance to the monument, you could drop down that big hill to the tide pools without entering the park. Screaming descent on the way down and nice climb on the way back up.

I ride to that immediate area 2-3x a week. I can say that it has lost its luster.

Mission Valley, the beaches, Mission Bay, Soledad. over and over and over again. Then turn around and repeat it home. Taking every turn and alternate path to mix it up a bit but after 3 years of commuting a few days a week... blah.

No doubt a great ride but I hit it too often (which is a good thing I guess). Weekends I have to go where I cannot during the week and that is east.

I haven't gone down Carbillo since they started charging.

In the fall and winter, I very much prefer east county on a roadie.

Yeah, the coastal rides are alot better in the summer. Once I get some miles in my legs on the road bike, maybe we can hit up the Grand Loop in East County.

I want to push further east this winter into Borrego Springs/A-B/Salton Sea areas.

I've heard rumors of empty desert roads and long gradual climbs and descents.

Sounds like fun, but the sad reality for me is it's very unlikely I'll get away often for a full day adventure like that.

I saw roadies all the time in blossom valley ,alpine, & therode from Syacuan to Alpine all the time when I rode in the EC.

There's no room for roadies on Dehesa Rd to Tavern in Alpine, & used to see roadies all the time 3 wide up that road. Anyways, look forward to riding in the EC

I will not ride 3 wide, especially on Dehesa rd where someone is inevitably in a rush to get to a slot machine!

I rode in the Stagecoach Century back in April in Ocotillo. It was pretty much middle of nowhere. Mostly rolling road with a few good climbs to break up the monotony. I think in the 100 miles, there was 4000ish' of climbing. It was a bit of a drive, but nice not to worry about a ton of cars and motorcycles like I deal with along Lyons Valley area of EC.
