I may be stepping on a few toes but most of the "regulars" on here start their rides on the North end off of Skyhaven. As a retired police officer with several friends working for Carlsbad PD, I can tell you they are getting raped with car burglaries at College & Cannon. Then again, based on your intro post, you can probably ride there. Just a head up for those that may be interested...

I mean I can ride anywhere from where I live. I do know a lot of people start rides at skyhaven but my buddies car was just broken into over there actually just recently. I haven't heard from any of the people I ride with having any trouble there at the intersection. But thanks for the heads up!

Great info. Thanks for posting this. That's my usual after work parking spot. Not any more....

K2,
Can you provide any details with regard to time of day/vehicles targeted etc? Curious as I park there during the day when I can escape the from work and get in a ride. FWIW I haven't notice broken glass or the like. Are vehicles being targeted with those newfangled signal intercept devices?

I will ask my buddy for more details the next time I see him. He's riding Palm Canyon with us next weekend.

Edit: I texted him and he said they actually arrested (2) people 3-4 weeks ago that they believe were responsible for the car break-ins. The problems have ceased for now.

Is there a preferred "most fun" route that locals like to take at Calavera? I've never been there, always stuck to east county

Trying to describe a 'route' at Calavera is rather difficult given the nature of the trails (their circuitous nature and type of trail). The cool thing is there is something for everyone out there from super smooth singletrack that could be ridden on a road/cross bike, to chunky bits to gap jumps.

Your best bet is to post up a day/time you will be riding/want to ride there and see if any regulars will show you around.

If you're free this Friday at lunch, I'll be riding from the College/Canon side ~11:45. Only have about 30 minutes to ride and choose from a few different loops depending on my mood (my mood never entertains gap jumps; but I'd be happy to point you in the right direction if that's your thing).

I mean this with no malice but Calavera is a hot mess, at least if one was going to try an describe a favorite route. There's SOOOOOO many options out there that it's almost impossible to do the same ride twice until you've been there 30-40 times...if that. There are no "official" trail names so consequently no signage of any consequence.

People are always posting up rides here. I suggest you hook up with one/some of them and go out for a ride. There are weekday morning groups, weekday evening rides and somebody is out there almost every Saturday morning organizing a ride so getting a free guide is a no brainer.
