Since at least May of 2014, on rides as short as 10 miles I would develop a cramp in my left foot, no matter how well hydrated I was. I just started using Nuun tabs (dissolve one in a 16 oz. bottle) and for the last three rides (all in the 13 - 18 mile) range, and I have not had even a twinge of discomfort. If you sweat a lot of salt like I do, you might want to check these out -- $7.00 for 12 tablets. Nice light taste, and lots of flavors to choose from. |

What, no stock photo? I like 'em too. I don't get cramps, probably cuz i dont ride that hard, so I can't really say if they've helped in any way. Since I started using them several months ago I have gotten way worse going uphill...pretty sure that's unrelated though. I like 'em because they are very convenient, all the flavors taste okay to me, and they don't upset my stomach. And the closest LBS stocks them. |

I like Nuun tablets for backpacking. Very convenient. They make a flavor or 2 with caffeine, which I drink in the mornings before heading out. That said, I wanted to make a cheaper alternative for day-to-day activities. Here it is in a nutshell, designed to give you the same Potassium and Sodium content ratio as Nuun: 18 oz. water 3 tsp. table salt 1 tsp. Lo Salt This makes a concentrated batch that you add to water with maybe a little flavoring, like Mio syrup. I put 30 mL (1 fl. oz.) of the concentrate into 24 oz. water (standard bike bottle). This provides very close to the same Na & K content as a tablet of Nuun. Of course, adjust the recipe for your needs. I very rarely cramp, but I found that keeping my electrolytes up really helps control my mitral valve prolapse. |
