Could that fall line bit of trail be re-planted and trail users be moved to the SDG&E access to the north?

not at this time. the city is only interested in fixing the existing trails as they lie. Making changes will be much further down the road.

though i agree with you the fall line will just wash out every year due to poor design from the onset.

That is a great suggestion and would be relatively easy and inexpensive to do. That short downhill section is a fun finish, but worth giving up to eliminate the collision possibility at the bottom. It would be good to suggest to City, CNLM, and CTC, although it might already be on their list.

You are assuming that they give a crap, which I highly doubt based on their actions

I went and rode it this afternoon. Good work guys, now that climb up the north east side needs work... holy cow I have never seen the rut so bad up there.

So first, I'm amazed to hear the suggestion to close a trail, even one that will wash out, etc.

Second, we are discussing the potential of redesign to prevent future erosion, however, all of the city trails are accounted for in habitat mitigation, etc. So changes like that would be near to an act of god..

Short term plans are to work with what we have, build relations with the City to the point we can do unsupervised trail work, get everything polished up and riding nice. Then we can discuss beneficial changes.

Longer term, this work with the city builds out status and furthers discussions with the dreaded CDFW, who are still quite unresponsive.

Well, be amazed then. When you agree to close a crap trail, the agency can give you new equal trail feet elsewhere without preparing reports. Lose some, win some. CNLM has done that before. I doubt that any good will with Carlsbad and CNLM translates into anything with DFW. Now that would be amazing.
