Hiked Noble Canyon, Penny Pines to Pine Valley, yesterday.

Snow, ice and muck from PP to just opposite the house at the top of the canyon just after the last road crossing. All the shaded or north facing parts are going to be a slick mess until it stays warm up there for at least a week. (see photo)

Lots of water in the creek and it's tributaries made for a great hike.

Huge dead oak down across the trail in the canyon forced a go around. Someone has removed some of the smaller trunks but looks like they ran out of gas and/or need a bigger chainsaw for the remaining trunks.

Thanks for the report! So I'm guessing it is safe to say that the entire BLT area (including Los Gatos) are going to have snow/ice?

Wow, when did that happen? We were just there last week and there was no snow. Did it rain/snow out there that I was unaware of?

Guessing it snowed Sunday night (9th-10th) while it was raining on the coast.

Snow only remains up high on parts of the trail that are shaded by trees, brush or hills. All the exposed southward facing parts were in good shape. The iciest section was just after the last road crossing where the trail switches back onto a north-facing slope and the trail is shaded by the hillside...
