I rode and spilled blood in a new area to me, the Ventura River Preserve in Ojai. Just looing at it in Trail Forks seemed pretty flat before the river crossings and …… maybe boring. For me numerous sections proved to be very challenging. It's a river bottom there are rounded rocks. I ride more rocks on the Laguna Meadows trips than the rest of the year. The rock arears on the normal trails in the local areas are very steep, very technical. Yes, the Ventura River Preserve trails are generally flat but I found 30-50 foot sections where I can definitely improve my rock navigation skills just by riding both directions and varying the path. BTW, without the uphill and downhill the rock challenges are very similar, from a failing memory, to Calavera. I noticed today I have a lot of skills that need improving.
