I awoke to a Frosty Morning and knowing we would be heading out to Daley I was actually less than excited as the temp out there at 7:00 this morning was 32°, so, I dragged my feet hoping to avoid more Brain Freeze, seriously, the other day, my ride from start to finish I had the frozen forehead which I recall from years past shoveling the snow from our driveway at 11pm just so that when I did it at 6am the next morning it wouldnt take me 2 hours. Yea, I know, SoCal warmth bla blah blah.
Anywho, we made it out to Daley at about 8:45, faux pas for making it to the staging area and not being ready prior to 8:30, but ya know, brain freeze sucks. Luckily we arrived at a toasty 48°, sweet, gonna be a scorcher today.
Nice mellow, mostly steady pace, air was brisk without feeling cold, ya know when its sub-40° and the deep hard breaths burn your lungs, well it wasnt like that thank Zeus’ ass.
We used the force for most of the ride, although the force took a short break from assisting me during a high speed run just north of the turn off to Crest, thats when the largest, loudest F-Bomb was ever heard out at Daley, then The Force returned but seemed to be toned down abit.
Burnt Mt Trail had some deep ruts, I came upon a section known as Dooders Doom, welp as you’ll see in the pic below, its now Dooders Gulch, the Doom portion was washed down hill a bit.
Overall, great weather, fun ride, but like I stated several weeks ago, that was the point trail conditions were optimal with the possibilty of not being that good ever again, still holds true. Its wet out there, water isnt just seeping out of the hillsides its pouring, all valleys ffom small to large have running stream which sounds so incredible as you ride along. Even with all the moisture, Daley holds up supremely well to the rains.

Don't get stuck in a rut. Force yourself to ride Black Mt because it's open for business

Daley has always been full of ruts from day one. They used to be my main nemesis out there as I always panicked when I dropped into one.

My suggestion is to drive a lil' further an go to Greer Ranch where conditions were fantastic overall yesterday. They've done a lot of "clean up" trail maintenance out there. Monday-Wednesday will be epic out there for sure.

Ruts require some old-school skills and can be an enjoyable challenge. The deeper they are the more mental it gets. I fell into a couple of new ones yesterday!

Yea, the ruts, not really that many throughout the park as a whole, just most notably on Burn Mt Trail, by the by, that deep rut sign is at the bottom end of Burnt Mt Trail, not at the more logical location....but the ruts didn't really bother me much, kinda fun navigating them. Bobcat wasnt too phazed by the rains, RockRidge Trail had the most stream crossings was really fun, Crest was its usual self with the one rocky descent is ever evolving or devolving depending on your perception was a blast. Once we got far enough away from the parking lot and the hikers we didn’t really encounter many other mt bikers. Ive been wanting to get out to Greer but Im not sure I want to go on a weekend, just to avoid the crowd, Im gonna hit it on a weekday.

I can't tell from this statement if you've been before or not but while weekdays are definitely nearly empty, the crowds on weekends aren't too bad actually. While people seem to stack up at the trailheads themselves at the top of the climbs, you very rarely run into people while you're actually riding (hauling the mail) as you go down. If anything, I *occasionalyl* get caught and pass don the climbs because I'm in no rush as I sit and spin my way along.

I havent ridden there yet, one of the reasons I want to hit it during the week. I dont really haul the mail much anymore, more like rolling lethargically like a bloated sow, although when reliving sweet singletrack through my minds eye Im really cooking with gas...
