I'll try to start a new advocacy group.

It isn't cheap to do, in terms of time or resources.

We will speak out and threaten cities/counties and municipalities in the same manner other groups threaten... to sue, if our needs are not met. (how does the S.C., the Seal friends and the rest of these groups get their way? through lawsuits)

With proper planning, we could make it a church and we all know, churches have mad influence and money tax free (basically).

I imagine it will be about 100.00-200.00 to join at first.

Before I go there, I need a board. So hit me up if you want to be a board member.

I'm leaving town in a bit until Monday but I am half serious about this and it is something I've considered for quite a while.

Can understand the hurt and anger that you all are feeling about the pussification of Iron Mtn. but there is no reason to start throwing shit around and at each other. Maybe if it was any place but Poway. You have to remind yourself that Poway's Gov is by horse people for horse people and they do whatever the hell it is they want to do. Take Sycamore by the rangers station, an old neighbor informed me recently that the 20 year old singletrack there was no longer wide enough for horses. Bullshit, I rode my first horse through there thousands of times!
Know someone is going to strongly disagree but if you truely want to ride scarier stuff go out and build it, then keep quiet about it so it doesn't get torn down.

I've done the same (thinking, looking, reading) and I know others have as well.

To date I haven't wanted to step on others toes but honestly, after watching the following it just really discouraged me to think about the current happenings in San Diego.

Out of town until next week but am planning on going to Blind Lady Monday night, let me know if you are going (I think you are in North county, so probably not but we can hook up at a later time)

No sir, my answer to this was to move some place where the gov stayed out of the way of people's right to recreation. There are places that don't have trail width minimums and trail surface safety requirements.

So... after reading ALL of that...

What are the next steps? Just going to the meeting?

For Italo, are you going as an MTB Locos rep? Just a mountain biker? A concerned citizen?

For SDMBA, will there be a rep attending any meetings with regards to this? Will you have a "call to arms" in the next newsletter possibly?

I can see that Italo's heart was in the right place with this, but I don't think it was conveyed appropriately.

When it comes to Advocacy, it's hard to get involved because some people just have no idea what to do (like me).

I think a lot of people look to SDMBA to take care of things and forget that they are made up of those that participate. Unfortunately, it's hard to participate when there isn't any real leadership communicating information to the masses.

The damage to the trail has already been done at this point; it cannot be un-done. Thankfully the work has reportedly been stopped. The inflammatory posts, chest-thumping, and pointing fingers in this thread are not going to get us anywhere. Only if people are willing to put their words into action will we accomplish what needs to be done.

Our only focus at this point should be to 1) hold the City of Poway to its word that the work has stopped. 2) Work with the City and other user groups to educate the land managers on what users want (challenging, scenic singletrack) and on sustainable, appropriate trail maintenance.

SDMBA meeting is tonite at MTRP for anyone willing to put in the effort to attend.

just as a concerned citizen/land user, i dont see the need to bring MTB Locos into this (and add more confusion to the situation) unless SDMBA doesnt get involved...in my opinion SDMBA would be better suited to address this matter primarily (seeing as how they have a standing relationship with the City)

I can see that Italo's heart was in the right place with this, but I don't think it was conveyed appropriately.

my apologies to all, but all i want is my Iron Mt. back...or something of equal value to replace it!

I think it would be good for you to bring your groups name into the fold. It will get it before the city council. Since TW in 100% in Poway, you may want the advocacy rep with you and the Locos. Just a thought.

In . . . ?! I was counting on you to be one of the board members. Membership fee will be two cents, so later when someone wants to give me theirs, I'll tell them "STFU, I have it already."
