I climbed a mountain today, Otay Mountain and all 36 miles and 3k climbing, I wanted to ride today and after LPQ didn't go I though about doing mountainbike Bill's recent report on this loop, after all how hot can it get right? Was I wrong! It turn out to be a loooong ride, had to refill my water a couple of times and at the end it turned in to a mayor bush waking festival! Did I mention it was hot today??
On to the pictures......

sweet pictures, I know it was hot as hell I went out for a ride and got back around 2 this afternoon and it was 80 in the shade in clairemont. Glad you didn't pass out from heat stroke!

EDIT-Oh wow new pictures, you really got some elevation there, great ride you must have been sweating so much I know I was today...Do you guys usually drink Gatorade or water? I was drinking water recently at noble but they told me Gatorade is more efficient because we burn so many calories charging downhill courses. Anyway good job 36 miles is way outta my league, Peace

Holey schnykies Baja!!!!
Awesome ride man.
And a few of those pictures are truely magazine and postcard worthy. How do you feel after that ride?
I think we may have to watch out for Baja if/when he comes up to La Costa again. We'll be finishing up our second lap..tired, worked, beat, and here he'll be on his 6th lap asking why we're sitting around.
Great job Baja and Happy Birthday!!!!

Wow Baja that looks like a killer ride. How long did it take? Let me know if you need a wing-man next time!

If I'm riding local or for 2 to 3 hrs usually water is ok but if is going to be a long ride or a hot day like last Sunday at Cuyamaca or yesterday's then I add some kind of electrolyte into my camelback, I also had a frozen Gatorade that saved for my "victory celebration" at the top.

You are seriously logging your share of pedal milage, AWESOME JOB. Sweet pictures by the way thanks for sharing. As asked previously how long did it take you to complete the loop? and what kind of lytes are you adding in your camel back? I've been hearing about the "sport leg" capsules and was also interested on your thoughts about "cytomax" performance drink.

Thanks Sloth, I feel great comparing with last night, now that I think about it, it wasn't very smart of my part to do this ride in the middle of summer, good idea but wrong day, will have to wait for cooler day to try it again, maybe.
It was a looong ride, too long and the thing is that I can do ok on the heat and long rides but in places like La Costa where you have to start climbing right away I have a problem because it takes me a while to warm up, so don't worry, I still be waaay in the back next time we ride La Costa

Thanks Randy, I haven't used Cytomax yet but I'm using http://www.vitalyte.com/index.html and really like it, I used a couple of sticks in the camelback and works for me.
As far as how long it took, because of the unusual wheather it was way longer than what it should had taken, it was about 5.5 hours with too many stops, some trail finding, lots of picture taking and sometimes I just stop to enjoy the views, BTW there is no place to get some shade in the entire mountain but one single tree on the way down but I didn't stop since I was on a roll.

Thanks but I'm not going back up there for a while  but I'll let you know next time, took me about 5.5 hours but if I had better weather conditions I think it can be done in about 4 maybe.
