Attachment: ^^^ Big Clyde did not lie on IG when he said it never gets old. However, I did lie a little in my later conversation with DFW’s Gabriel, which made it less confrontational and something almost cordial. Still out here, just enjoying the south forty. |

^^^ It’s been hot — I can appreciate them taking a break in the shade. I felt the same about a DT reunion yesterday when I met up with a few yesterday at Calavera. The rides don’t get posted much anymore, but the odds are fairly good on any Saturday about 8 to 8:30 you will find a few ‘Treaders there. We (RHS, Dirty Boo, Big Clyde, 325racer & me) rode a couple hours with a minimum of book clubbing and a maximum of sweating. Thank god that place consistently gets an ocean breeze. I forgot to take any ride photos, so here’s a couple of others. No explanation needed for the first. Attachment: Later that night I was watching a pretty good old film noir called Drive a Crooked Road, and I swear the star reminded me of one of those ‘Treaders. Attachment:

Another Clyde-style pad photo, from this afternoon. But something’s wrong (very right actually) about this one. Attachment: I was very surprised when I took my old bike out to see how I felt. I rode a favorite figure 8 loop, expecting I would not make it up a couple of the hills, and I made them all, no rests or dabs. I'm still a little shocked. I had been assuming I'd never be able to go back to an analog bike, but this is encouraging. It's almost a year on the e-MTB now, and two or three since I felt this good on those hills. The e-MTB is so much fun I will still be riding it on group rides and many solo rides for sure, so no one has to go back to waiting for me on every hill, but I think I will look for a new(er) analog bike. One thing is clear, after 160mm of plush suspension and modern geometry, I'm not going back to this 130/140 XC/trail bike. |

A pano from about halfway up Black Mountain. That other one. Attachment: The last hundred feet or so to the top. Attachment: The ride stats. About three and a half hours getting to the top, an hour relaxing and picking out landmarks on the horizon, and one very fun hour to get back. Attachment:
