I've officially moved to Prescott full time but I'll be coming back monthly for the next 18 months so I'll be checking in occasionally. I have a lot of learning to do in this area but if you're ever in the area and want to get in a ride, send me a PM. I'm always down for a ride.

Congrats. We were just there on a scouting mission (first time). Does it "green" up come spring and summer? I would think obviously so, and seems like a dumb question, but I'd like to know for sure.

I think it goes from green to brown pretty quick.

The trail system in Prescott is awesome, best wishes!

Follow @ridealongside on Instagram for good photos of Prescott trails every day.

[I think I finally violated my longstanding policy of never acknowledging any social media exists besides DT. What next? Calling people by their real names?]

Well, we've been coming at different times for a few years and it greens up some (trees, like the ones downtown definitely fill up) but it's never green, GREEN like someplace that gets a plethora of moisture. I've been all over on MTB trips and have deter mined that unless you're willing to deal with loads of moisture, or humidity in some cases like Bentonville, that GREEN is harder to come by.

On the flip side, I registered my truck the other day. It was $545 in CA for ONE year. I could register it here for FIVE years for $599....so $120 a year. I got gas last week at Costco and paid $2.09 at one of the TWELVE pumps (that also sell diesel). There was only one other guy getting gas at the time.

Thanks. Downtown was in line with my thinking of "brown". I can picture it looking a lot more vibrant come spring. Would really have loved to cruise around and have some food and beers in a pre/post covid environment.

Lot's of trade-offs moving out of "paradise", but the benefits of doing so are looking stronger and stronger.

I only got a small taste of the trail network. It looks pretty amazing overall as far as amount of trails. The stuff we tried was pretty tame though (which worked well for wifey). My 170mm bike was just a smidge overkill. I'm sure the more fun stuff is there though.

Good on ya for making your exit.

Well, paradise is obviously subjective. Even though Iived in Oceanside for 24 years, I can count the # of times I touched the sand on one hand so while the views could be stellar, the coast didn't hold the appeal to me than it does to others. I've always preferred the mountains and trees. My paradise would actually be PNW type forests but my wife couldn't handle the rain. I actually like the weather here better than SoCal because I like riding in "sunny and mid-50's" temps. We're on day 14 here and 12 of them have been straight up blue sky Socal days....but much bluer and clearer of course. I also appreciate the 3.5 seasons they have here. :D

There are TONS of trails for sure and I've ridden several on my visits but there are definitely none where a 170 bike is necessary but I prefer riding a 27.5 bike in Sedona so I'll ride my HD5 there as well as road trips. There is definitely a voice here for more difficult trails but they tend to be mostly similar to SART overall. I've **heard** about more difficult shuttle trails on Mingus but haven't ridden them yet...or have any idea where they are.

Look me up when you get here. I'm over in Williamson Valley, 2 miles from the Granite Basin trail system which leads right into the Emmanual Pines trails which leads right into the Thumb Butte system and foe the crazy ARCH ride types....right into the heart of the %4= mile Prescott Circle Trail. The possibilities of linking trails together is crazy.

^^ really cool. That's part of the appeal. Would be fun to start hunting (deer and javelina). Would have to start eating meat again!

I asked about some tougher trails while there and Mingus was the name that came up. Checked a video and it looks good. Was further than I wanted to drive during our short stay though.

BTW, despite my POTD post yesterday about San Diego’s great weather, I am sympathetic to a number of economic and other reasons someone might have for relocating. For example, the city of San Diego has damn near as many people as the entire state of Idaho, and considerably more than a number of other states. Enjoy your new homes and all the good things there!
