So I’ve read about these encounters on Empty Beer and social media but I’ve never see of experienced it myself. I was climbing on the Back Forty today and about 1/4 mile from the top when I can across a solo woman walking with a single ski pole. When I was about 50’ away, she started yelling at me to “get back and go the other way”. I actually thought she was worried about being sexually assaulted but as I got closer, she continued yelling and held her ski pole at me in a threatening manner. She was screaming at me for not wearing a mask and “threatening the public good”. Luckily the trail was 15+ feet wide due to bulldozer activity earlier this year so I went around her. However, instead of being happy and safe that I was so far away, she came towards me and was jabbing her ski pole tip in my direction. I never felt in danger but she got to within a foot of me with that pole.

She was a white female in her 50’s, probably 5-10, 170 lbs with a backside the size of a Mack truck but still trying to pull off yoga pants and her shirt folded up like a crop top. This was at about 8 am today. You’ve been warned. Oh...and she didn't have a mask on herself. She was frantically trying to pull her shirt up over her face as I rode towards her.

What a F'n joke. Glad you didn't slow down. People like that suck. Under no circumstances should we be wearing masks while doing cardiovascular exercise outdoors (or indoors for that matter).

Can we coin the term "maskholes"?

Thanks for the heads up I will make sure to wear a mask out there so there won’t be any conflict.

She’s the trail Nazi.
She’s been causing conflicts
for years out there. Her husband
is no better.
They live on the east fire road
right before the gate going south.

I often wonder what unfortunate events happened in the lives of people like this that inspire them to be so unhappy and shitty to others.

I know that honey has been used multiple times with those two, to no avail. I'm all out of honey but do have a reserve of vinegar.

Pretty sure they live in an HOA. Can you imagine being neighbors with those two? Good God Almighty...

I guess I've been lucky by not running into her. She (and I) were headed for that upper East side fire road when I ran across her so it's probably exactly who you think it is. Maybe I should start carrying my bear spray. :drunk:

This news story has the current state requirements: https://ktla.com/news/california/califo ... new-rules/

There is a specific exception for "Anyone engaged in outdoor work or recreation — such as swimming, walking, hiking, bicycling, or running — when alone or with other members of their household, or when they can maintain social distancing."

Just carry one and make sure you can put it on if the situation requires...

Thanks for the link. Sounds like that lady is a nut job. I wonder if it is the same grumpy lady and her husband who got upset with me for riding the fireroad right after the CDFW started locking things down a bit 2 years ago, she made a big stink about me being there on my bicycle, with my small child on board. When she said bikes are not allowed to ride here, I just said "okay" and moved on, My buddy riding with me said "we wont" and we went about having a wonderful ride. I got a good chuckle at my buddies reply.

Funny mask story. I was at the market a few days ago, had my son with me. Was waiting in line behind a woman who was too old to be out, seriously postmates was designed for the older people during a pandemic. She was paying with cash, and literally giving the cashier exact change. She then pulled out some of her own bags (must not of wanted to pay the $0.10 per bag) and started bagging her groceries really slow. I was being patient as was my 4 year old. The cashier rang up my 3 items and bagged them for me and I moved within 6-7 feet of the woman bagging her groceries to use the credit card machine. She turned to me with a horrified expression and asked me to please back up.......

I did so, and exchanged a smile with the cashier who was literally standing closer than 6 feet to both of us....

If you are that scared of the virus, and feel you are that susceptible to it, Stay home. Stay home. Stay home.

If I run into that lady on the trails I will be sure to pull out my phone and reference the stay at home order for her.

so many mis-informed people out there.

The crazy thing was is she wasn't wearing a mask herself. Then when I went to go around her and was 15 feet away, she approached me. She could have stayed still or even backed up further rather than have a conniption.

She wasn't wearing a mask either? Ah, one of those types who think rules don't apply to them but they sure apply to everyone else...

I think it just points to the likelihood that she has much deeper fears than mask-o-phobia.

This kind of thing, in part, is what has pushed me to multi surface. When you have a limited space to ride and different user groups the bozos get a soapbox and you can't avoid them.
