Man, that was fun! Good folks on this ride. After tailgate beers I really did go back out for another lap. Trails were pretty uncrowded at noon-thirty...only mad dogs & englishmen. Talked with four young Japanese women gathered in the shade of the new dam restroom. They were all wearing wide straw hats, big sunglasses, and inadequate footwear. I pointed out the volcano, which was looking to be more of a challenge than they expected. They asked if there was a nearby park, so I sent them to Oak Riparian where there is shade, grass, drinking water, and trees. They were happy. Ran out of water at the top of Serpentine, but it's all downhill from there, and the onshore breeze had picked up. Took a couple tries at this one section...Kimba, I lied. Jumping the new rut may have been a faster line right after the rains, but now the rut is twice as wide from klutzes like me slamming into the downhill lip, and the slalom line around it is nicely worn in. So unless you can launch off the kicker uphill from it and completely clear the rut, go with the flow....

Yep. Went for another lap. Just set the bike in the rut to illustrate how big it is in relation to a 26" wheel...remember those?
