I need a more aggressive front tire that is high volume and is good at cornering. I prefer a rounder profile over a square one since I don't care to commit to hard leans. I am a little disappointed by the performance of my 29er ardent compared to the 26er version. I thought about getting the 2.4 version but don't want to waste my money if the difference is minimal.

Been checking out certain tires and wondering if you guys have any experience with these of any other good choices.

Schwalbe nobby nic 2.35
hutchinson toro 2.35
panaracer rampage 2.35

P.S. My current setup is
front - ardent 2.25
rear - ignitor 2.25

Everybody has their favorites, which change over time of course. My current is Kenda Nevegal 2.35 front and whatever but usually WTB Mutanoraptor 2.35 rear. I ran rounder profile fronts, WTB Weirwolf 2.55 until I had a bad crash, now I prefer squarer knob patterns front for more stability. I do not notice any weight penalty. I also liked Conti Mountain Kings 2.35 but they wore fast.

I felt the same way about the 2.2 Ardent, and can confidently say that the 2.4 ardent is a completely different tire. The casing is tougher, it's slightly wider and taller than the 2.2 Ardent, and it weighs only 50 grams more (795). The tread is closer together and a couple millimeters taller, which I believe make all the difference in the 2.4's cornering performance. I also like the small increase in volume.

I hated the panaracer rampage because the middle nobs were so far apart that I felt a lot of rolling resistance. If you research that tire, a lot of people feel that way. Also, the panaracer rampage 2.35 is smaller than an ardent 2.2.

Thanks guys. It's so hard to find high volume 29er tires.

yea, the Ardent 2.4 is significantly different tire than the 2.2. The tread is taller, most notably on the transition. Huge volume. I think it's lighter than the rampage and corners and rolls better.

Ardent 2.4 front & rear for 6 months now. About the same or smidge wider than the Nevegal 2.2, a little more volume, much better rolling, but a hair less grip on technical rock at places like Sedona & such.

Might have a new Hutchinson 29" tire in my parts bin at home. I'll let you know tonight. Not sure which model or which size though.

Just switched to a Nobby nic 2.35 on the front a few weeks ago. Little pricey but worth it.

The two that i use are racing ralph 2.4 and weirwolf 2.55LT. Right know i'm running the racing ralph its a fast and light weight tire with plenty of volume for a plush ride on my ridged bike. I run about 20 lbs in it.

Thanks, I already ordered the 2.4 ardents but where did you find the 2.55 weirwolf? Most places don't carry the high volume versions, and the ones that do are unreliable shops.

Maxxis Ardent, 29er x 2.4" EXO front and back. North of the Border has them at a good price. I run the rear backwards for added uphill traction.
