The bike I have came with the Captain S-works tires and I love how they work, they roll well and have decent traction. The only problem I have is they have weak side walls. I'd like to stay near 2.2in and keep the rollin resistence down and not worry about pinch flats or the side wall blowing out, any recommandations?

I think this may be what your looking for...
...except for the rolling resistance and all, I think they should do the trick.

I just saw that there was already a tire thread, so I feel doomb for starting this one. Although in my defense, there is less selection with the 29s. Also, I ran the panaracers (26) for so long out of ignorance that I don't want to make the same mistake.

I run Kenda Small Block 8s on my 29er (sometimes only on the rear). The sidewall strength is pretty good (not great) but the rolling resistance is awesome. They are also 2.2s.

I've not found a better combination yet for San Diego conditions, cause like you said the selection is still pretty limited.

I love my Shwabe Racing Ralphs on the rear. This is a great rear tire. I unfortunately also have one of these on the front, and it is nowhere near as nice in that location.

I'm in the market for something with more bite in the corners without giving up too much rolling resistance. I've got a 29er Nevegal on the front of the full squish bike, and that's got all the bite in corners that I could ever want. But on my rigid SS, I wish for a little less rolling resistance.

My buddy George (wongspeed1 here on DT) has some old Bontrager Jones tires and loves them on the front. I wonder if those are still available somewhere. It's hard to find 29ers at most places.

I run Ignitors up front and on the rear and they work great. To give you an idea how well I think they work, I just bought 5 of them...............yes...............5.

Not the best price, but its a good tread pattern, I'll do another search for ya...
http://www.coloradocyclist.com/product/item/MAXFGRWK

Ok Here's all the 29r Tires available from Bike Bling, better prices and local...

I would think to stay away from the Geax, and The IRC tires as they don't have the volume even though they say they might...nope.

Been there done that with the Geax. That was the floppiest tire I've seen. It was almost impossible to get it seated on a 29er rim (I was using a DT TK7.1d rim). I had multiple tubes with valves sheared off because that Geax tire would rotate on the rim taking the tube with it when I tried to climb. After going through 2 tubes on most rides, I chucked the tire and replaced it with another.

My limited 29er tire experience:

Rear tire:
Geax saguaro - AWFUL
WTB Exiwolf - decent, not great
Schwalbe Racing ralph 2.25 - GREAT
Small block 8 - Good rolling resistance and grip, but it is a tiny 2.1 tire.

Front tire:
Nevegal - Good traction, but lots of rolling resistance
Exiwolf - Awful. It washes out when going in a straight line
Shwalbe Racing ralph 2.25 - good, but some washout

But really, I got all 5 for my Niner. I run Nevegal's on the Turner.

Here is a good site. Even is you don't buy from them, their photos really show the tread on select tires. I have the WTB ExiWolf's on both my 29ers and they work good for me.
