You can get a conversion kit with 3 cogs (16,18, 20) a bunch of spacers and a chain tensioner, branded "forte" from at least 1 of the performance stores around for sub 25.00. ( I saw them in La Mesa, one of the guys in Kearny told me once that "they all ride SS" there, so possibly they have them too)

I've used this setup in the past and while it isn't exactly Chris King quality, it works and it is affordable.

Sorry for supporting the big-box over the LBS but it was affordable and going on to an old bike.

I thank you for the info, but I'm more into quality. I'll save up and pay a bit more for it.

Or

Adams Ave has plenty of SS parts but are more of roadies, I am sure they could be trusted with a MTB. Call em and see what they have.

Cal Coast has always been pretty knowledgeable but I'm not sure of their "on hand" parts.

+1 on the Performance SS kit, is worth to try and you like the singlespeed thing then spend the big bucks ones you know what you want, just my 2 cents.

+2 on the Performance kit. It works great and is inexpensive. Why pay extra for name brand? I used one when I built up an old HT frame into a SS.

I did just buy one of those brown bikes... in June. Got to ride it twice before being hospitalized, too. Damn singlespeeds!! Turn back, now, before it's too late.

+3 on the Performance Kit, by the way. I've used it on 3 different SS conversions and it's held up better on those bikes than the brand-name Surly Singulators I've used on my own and other bikes.

Another local SD store you can rely on for SS stuff is Bike Empire, in Poway. They formerly hosted the Cal State SS champion as an employee and ride leader, and still have a big SS crew that ride out of that shop. They are mutants, so wash your hands after contact.

I'll have to check out that shop and the performance kit. I'm still shopping around until my bike gets here. I feel like there is apart of me missing lol.

Hear this guy out:

I offered him my brand new Chris King cogs in 16, 17 and 18 and didn't include my prices and this is what he responded through PM:

Quote:
I thank you for the offer but Im not sure if I'm going to like SS yet. I'm not looking to drop a ton off cash to start. I'll keep you in mind if I decide to go all out.

Sometimes I wonder why these poeple post if they really have no intention to buy. I guess they just post for the fun of it??????

I need quality parts, but dont want to put ton of cash = This is pure joke to me.
