That’s a glass of some smoky Chihuahuan Sotol, from Marfa Spirits, which I’m enjoying in the tiny little mountain town of Ft. Davis, Texas. It took hours and hours of driving across flat and dusty nothing to get here, but it’s a cool place.

I know tasters are common place but for some reason this one reminded me of getting into my friends parents liquor cabinet.

This New Mexico IPA was pretty good with brisket tacos, but when traveling I like to pack a known good California IPA…

Had to google what sotol was. People will ferment pretty much anything... Is it good or more of a novelty?

Aaron, I liked it. It’s something like mezcal. This one had a smoky flavor I liked, although I was told the premium ones are smoother. I also bought a bottle of a premium sotol añejo from Mexico to compare, at this place in Terlingua.

thank god Black Market Brewing in Temecula has guest brews now. Although it’s got a good atmosphere and really great pizza, their own beers are not very good. But this Modern Times stout is just fine.

^^^^Have you stopped by The Local Provisions in Temecual? Cool spot. Really good beers on tap and a bunch of unique stuff by the can. Damned good burgers and sandos too.

No, but it looks like it’d be a good stop on the way back from Vail Lake or Idyllwild. Thanks! BMB is over by the X-trails (as are Intense, Spoke_X, and a few other breweries) and is where the “beer club” from my former workplace meets up.
