Yes, so do I, especially after falling on my back on my brand new pack yesterday. I looped my bike from a standstill on a steep hill yesterday, which surprised the hell out of me and the three guys behind me. If Fred had been there I might deservedly gotten the comedy hour treatment, but I think the guys were worried I was hurt, because I was the only one laughing. I spun out on that super steep granite pitch of SDGE fire road just past the creek crossing, heading north. I often can’t quite make it up, but this is the first time I failed to just step off. I stopped, went to put my foot down and there was nothing there as I looped over backward still grasping the handlebars to keep the bike off me. Landed flat on my back and was completely aware of feeling that bladder like a mini water bed on my spine. Pretty funny as my feet were much higher than my head, and I squirmed around like a turtle on its shell. I needed help to get the bike off me and to stand up. The pack is broken in now. But I’m unhurt. Leave it to ODD to find the exact old thread to post to. Kudos to you for that and for laughing off your loop out to water bladder incident. While I acknowledge the additional safety aspect of the shoulder hydro pack, I'll do my best to never wear one again, at least on shorter rides. If I were worried, I'd sport my regular hip pack with water bottle holder and some sort of additional tortoise protective gear. The freedom of ditching the shoulder pack is just too good. |
