I needed an 80mm fork for an old bike, wanted it to be light as can be and needed it to be air/oil so that I can dial it in for a light rider (ie kid). Light, good & inexpensive don't go together often in these post-SuperGo-Slaughtered-by-Shimano days (not bitter, just sayin'), and I need studs for canti brakes! So, where's a guy to find 80mm light forks that don't cost $700? Take-offs from new bikes, right? The old SuperGo mode.

I lucked into an eBay dealer that's blowing out 2010 Manitou R7 Super Absolute's, straight from Taiwan. This would be the '10, Absolute Plus with canti-studs and the "oem black" aluminum steerers (retail forks have blue steerers for '10). They're selling them straight from Taiwan where the forks are made, with all the pre-install labels, tags and manual attached, but no retail box. The ebay seller lists them at $370 shipped for the 80 and 100mm versions, but has a "best offer" button. I tapped in an offer for $250 = $300 shipped and they took it. The forks arrived in 8 days.

I count this as a good deal. For reference, Price Point has the '09 disc-only on sale for 389 today.

http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Quality-Bik ... ec0Q2em322 is the seller.

This is the deal of the century as far as I'm concerned:

Beyond Bikes had these on sale at Biketoberfest, and they're still on sale today - I assume, til they're gone:

Hayes HFX Mags - front only, 6" for $40.

These are IMO the most dependable, non-fading, easy to service, easy to use brakes of all time. I still have one of two mags that came on a bike I bought in 2000. You can easily swap in a 160cm hose to use these on the rear, and all you need is a 7 or 8" adaptor to use with those sizes of disc rotor. The pads and rotor alone would normally cost more than $40, for perspective. As I said, deal of the century.

edit: got there a little after 10:00, and there was already something of a line. they opened at 9:00ish. i went straight for the sunglasses. got several radars @$50/ea and a couple lenses @$15/ea. it seemed really cheap, but not so much after i waited in the checkout line for over an hour.

if you go, i suggest arriving when it opens, if possible. if not, go with someone, and tagteam it. establish a place in the checkout line and then take turns shopping, under the guise of going to the bathroom or whatever.

and they don't seem to care whether you printed an invite or not, so i wouldn't bother, unless you want it for the directions or something.

oh and it's not just sunglasses and goggles. i didn't know this, but apparently oakley makes all sorts of clothing and luggage and other crap that i still don't care about. that's all on sale there too.

Yep, that's not a bad price. Don't mean to brag, but I just bought this same rack yesterday off Craigslist for $200. Mine's the one that's made for a 1-1/4" receiver, but my 4Runner has a 2", so I also bought an adaptor off CL for $20.

I'll post up some pics when I get to it...
