Looking to buy or build a decent mountain bike for my daughter on a $500 budget. She's 5' 5", so need a small frame (14.5/15"), or maybe a medium frame (15/16"), but only if it has good standover.

Thinking hardtail, disc brakes (BB5/7 okay), geared, threadless fork 100mm. I could get an entry level one brand new for not much more, but maybe someone has a better quality used one. Dual suspension okay too, but seems unlikely on this budget.
