Not April fools sadly...

They recently closed their new brewery in Virginia and shut down barrel program Cellar3.

Looks like they'll continue operating but who knows how it will go. Alpine may be a casualty of war...

Not a complete shock as GF didn't really have a flagship beer that was well known, and it seemed like they were in a huge rush to expand. Hopefully they and Alpine continue to produce good stuff, but being owned by an investment firm seems to be better for profit margins than beer quality. And then there's this:

Quote:
Raising some eyebrows in the craft beer community is the addition of Joshua Yelsey, formerly of Anheuser-Busch, as manager of Green Flash’s new owner. Not only was he a manager in Anheuser’s mergers and acquisitions department, but he also worked as head of finance for such Anheuser-acquired craft breweries as Goose Island and Blue Point.

Ha...not being a beer drinker and as somebody who worked in Pacific Beach 20+ years, I thought your were talking about the Green Flash restaurant down there. Just as long as Don Julio keeps churning out quality tequila, I'm all good.

I was never really a fan of GF beer but love Alpine beer. Recently the local Trader Joes that carried it in the PNW stopped and I assume was a result of this. I hope Alpine beer is not a casualty as few things beat a noble canyon ride and stop at the brewery in Alpine.

I'm not concerned about GF or Alpine shutting down, more that the investment firm will dictate finances and force them to dumb down recipes. Those behind Alpine are forced out so I'm sure they will land elsewhere and continue their good work.

Luckily there's so many great beer choices out there.

I actually am a big fan of a couple of GF beers though (not that Tangerine Soul shit though). And of course, Alpine is delish. Better stuff than a lot of Stone, but I'd be more bummed if Stone had this problem. Stone just seems more iconic to the region and the craft movement imho.

Think I'll go enjoy a beer!

Ditto.

I loved stopping at Alpine on my way home from Mt. Laguna or a Noble run...

Losing Alpine would be brutal. Not a fan of Greenflash beer, but I enjoy having Alpine beer at the Mira Mesa location. I usually park there on Friday night after work, rip down Lopez Canyon and into PQ and back up for a beer at the end. That will be sad if I can't do that anymore. And as n10sive said, a post ride beer at Alpine after a Noble Canyon run is a must. I hope they aren't impacted too badly.
