I've been using a pack under the seat for 20 years. It can hold a Multi-tool, patch kit, spare tube, CO2 inflator, cartridges, chain links and a few other misc. items. I've always had everything I needed for dealing with flats and minor mechanical issues on the trail.

I’ve also used small seat packs forever. I switched to this Lezyne tool roll a while back and it’s my favorite so far. You can also strap it on the frame if you prefer.

I go the OneUp route: Pump with EDC tool and plug/pliers kit, attached to the pump holder next to my water bottle cage. It gives me most of what I need for most rides.

I also have a small tool roll that I can easily switch back and forth between my backpack or hip pack. It has things like an extra derailleur hanger, small bottle of sealant, zip ties, etc.

Nah. I still ride with my old Blackburn Mississippi pack. Keeps my core strong, and provides an essential cushion in the event of an accidental dismount...
I'm long past keeping up with what the trends are. 8)

Great point Ray
Lately, I've crashed more often than I like and the pack on my back has prevented more damage to my old body, plus it carries all the medical items needed to stop the bleeding
