Cool pics. Looks like a harrier above. What do you shoot with?

Thanks!

Canon 5D MarkII and a Canon 400mm f5.6 for the birds. Momma says I don't get to play with anything bigger unless I start making $ with a camera (which is not my plan :D ). I can put up to 65mm of extensions on for the close focus/macro stuff.

Yeah, seriously. I will occasionally get lucky and get a good shot with my kit 55-200mm lens (nikon D7200 body); but really want one of the new 300 or 500 PF ED VR lenses. Like bikes n+1.

First, my apologies to all the non-photo nerds out there in Dirttreader land.
(I'm picturing Big Clyde and Not Fast waving off their computers like the guy you see behind Steve Martin in the bar scene from "Roxanne")

Ajdonner,

Do it!

Either of those lenses will make a MASSIVE improvement to your photographs. If you can swing the 500mm price tag and don't mind the size and weight, bigger is always better

Also, luck is when preparedness meets opportunity.

Just to illustrate:
Took this at San Elijo a couple springs ago. I had just spent about $150 for a camo neoprene lens cover (damn Canon and their big-ass white lenses!), boonie hat and t-shirt. Spent an hour hunkered down behind a bush as this guy fished the shore toward me. Close focus on my 400mm is 11 feet so he was a least that far away but not much more!!

As an added bonus, the camo outfit wards off the curious bypasser coming up to you at a critical point and asking what you're shooting (yes this has ruined more than one opportunity!).

Heaven forbid that a DT moderator actually do any work and move a post to the correct thread.

The boonie hat, sunglasses, ammo belt, and bayonet really add to that effect.

I’ve found that having an officer stick their muzzle brake in your ear and ask you what the f you’re doing breaks my concentration...so I’ve taken to leaving the ammo and bayonet at home.
