So my source at Carlsbad PD gave me a call today and said he had personally spoken to the Game Warden (GW) responsible for the enforcement up in Calavera. My buddy asked the GW if they had been taking bikes from riders and was told "no". My buddy explained that somebody had actually come into Carlsbad PD and asked to recover their mountain bike that had been taken from them. My buddy explained that he had heard a rumor that some guy named "Gabe" was taking bikes and we had actually been told that by a resident when we finished our ride like 3 weeks ago. The GW called Gabe (who is actually named Gabriel and is a state biologist for the Calavera area) in the presence of my buddy and Gabe said he had not taken any bikes.

Most importantly for you guys/us....the GW point blank told my buddy that he is getting no support from Sacramento on the Calavera issue so until he gets more support and direction, he has no intent on doing any enforcement. Take all that for what it's worth. I'm sure none of it is no surprise.

Gabe is a tool.
He’s on his own agenda.
I wouldn’t put it past him
to take bikes.
He cut the Eucalyptus on
his own.
We are safe for now!

I like Big Clyde's message, but prefer it in Haiku format (5/7/5).

Gabe is a big tool.
He's on his own agenda.
He could still take bikes.

On his own he cut
The big Eucalyptus trees
We are safe for now.

I have an idea
All your replies to this thread
Should be a Haiku.

A stupid idea?
Yes, almost definitely.
I'm bored.... amuse me.

I always liked the Haiku-esque structure of Clydes' posts.
As to Calavera, I don't get up there much anymore, but I'd say ride trails that are there until they ain't.
Learnt my lesson on DMM.

Awww. That's so nice of them to put a nice little foot-bridge in for the gnat catchers.

Do you think anyone in some "official Capacity" placed that across the trail? If so, they need to be fired.
Think about this it for a minute, Regardless if this area of trail is legal or not....
1. People have spilled hot coffee on themselves and won millions in court
2. Thief's have broken into businesses through the roof, hurt themselves when falling, sued and won.
3. A thief got electrocuted breaking into a business which the business owner electrify the vent and won.

Those are a couple of cases I could quickly think about when seeing this. Imagine yourself booking down the trail, hit that wood laid across the trail, and hurt yourself. Can you say lawsuit? It's just plain bad judgement. I think (and hope) there is some nut job out there doing this and not someone being pay by tax dollars.

I think it was a rogue hiker
or someone else pissed off
at mountain bikers.
It could have been pretty bad
coming around the blind corner!
The log was on a little used trail.

One trail was covered with a piece of wood,
And sorry I could not travel past
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked o'er the log as far as I could
To where it kept me from getting fast;

Rode carefully back to the car
and drank some cold brews

I know someone who has one of those signs up in his garage.... Must have fallen off a post.

Honestly it is a shame those signs are littering the preserve, they expired in 1998.... 20 years ago.
