Do you ride there?
I used to go to the beach using the trail before they closed Murphy’s place.
Do you think I could get away with a sunrise ride pass though?

It's my backyard hiking/nature photog locale. I only ride it if I am very desperate and my car is missing! Just not very interesting or connected to anything and Murphy's is still closed.

Will they be enforcing the regulations of the trail system, ie. No hiking except on fireroads?

Funny, this site says there are no regulations.

https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Lands/Regulations

Page 4 half way down

I see nothing excluding biking in Ecological Reserves..

https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx ... 480&inline

Every time I ride I'm Viewing Wildlife. Time to start carrying binoculars.

Read the top of the page...

This table includes regulations that apply only to individual properties. Visitor use of all CDFW properties is also subject to the general regulations in sections 550 and 550.5, Title 14, CCR. Visitor use of wildlife areas is also subject to subsections 551(a) through 551(h) and any other sections of Title 14, CCR that may apply. Visitor use of ecological reserves is also subject to subsections 630(a) and (b) and any other sections of Title 14, CCR that may apply. Visitors to CDFW lands are responsible for knowing and following all applicable regulations.

Hell you're probably violating a half dozen federal, state and local laws regulations and ordinances sitting in the dark in your skivves reading this post! Not to mention international trade agreements and arms trade bans...

Talked to a riding buddy who was out at Calavera on the morning of July 25th or 26th (he couldn’t remember) and was stopped as he rode from the area of the tank up towards the pad. The F&G Officer was in a full size truck and stopped on the trail/road. He waved over my friend and then 3 others before taking their photos and giving them an “official” warning. He told them F&G would be out in force and issuing $1000 citations.

25th was a Wednesday, 26th a Thursday, about what time in the morning? Seems like a very odd time to be "patrolling" out there considering trail users would be sparse during that time.

I ride out there once a week and the only time I ever saw anything remotely resembling a ranger was when the Carlsbad Police were riding dirt bikes out there and tearing up the trails in the name of "safety"????

The truth is until they install a 10 foot high cement wall around the entire place there will be trail users accessing it from all 4 sides. Can't have an open nature preserve with trails all over it for the last 50 years and surround it by homes and expect the public to not recreate in it.

Ride it till they pave it indeed.

FYI - I know F&G generally have dark green/blue trucks, but today on my ride to work I saw a White Dodge Ram crew Cab heading south on 5 in Carlsbad with a big F&G patch on the drivers side door, but no other markings, the man driving was white and looked to be pretty tall from the quick glance I got at him.

Gabe the gardener, who is been creating all this ruckus,
always drives a white F250, no markings on it, just
exempt plates.
It’s pretty easy, if you see a white truck ride the opposite
way on singletrack!

Saw him again today on my way south. I run a go-pro on the front of my motorcycle helmet and turned my head for a quick look and then took a screen shot from the video.

That’s not Gabe the gardener.
His truck is more beat and no markings.

I rode Tuesday afternoon with @k2rider. When we got back to my neighborhood one of my neighbors walked over and said that he heard from the Carlsbad PD that F&G was ticketing and confiscating bikes and that 150 bikes had been taken already. I call BS on the story. An another note, I rode this morning and came across this for the second time. It's hard to see from the pic, but the two posts are connected by barbed wire. Someone is putting this across the trail. Probably not too much of an issue because the sight lines are fine, but if someone was coming down the hill and not paying attention it could get ugly. I removed it again.
