So went for a ride at Calaveras today. Interesting start as when I was getting ready to ride a hiker was calling in that he had found a body.

He said it had probably been in the heat for a while. Fortunately his 2 young children hadn't seen.

I didn't go get curious, but it was below the power lines after making a left from the Sky Haven trail head.

Sadly, it turned out to be an elderly grandfather who had wandered off from a relative’s home in Vista.

That's sad. There was a pointed edge rock right near where a memorial is placed, wonder if he slipped and hit his head.

I think, that when the time comes, some of us have the same instinct as certain cats, and just get up and go for that final walk.

Yes, this is true, famously Guy Waterman. It might apply to me someday. I’m not sure it applies to Francisco, at least as a conscious choice, instinctive maybe as you say; I was thinking during my ride in that heat he may have been trying to get back home to Mexico. That embankment was steep, maybe he fell in the dark and rolled, maybe he went down it in the daytime seeking the shade at the bottom. The area was littered with trash from local yahoos drinking coffee and whacking golf balls. It didn’t seem right for his last resting place, and there was more than would fit in my pack, so I went back to my truck for a trash bag and cleaned it up. Lots of people walked by and didn’t even seem curious about the memorials, one at the power pole, and the one down the embankment. Being a grandfather myself, I added a small plastic toy horse to speed him on his journey. Vaya con Dios, Caballero.
