Another dimwit who believed the Marine dog story.

Stunning.

What trails did I destroy, by the way? Just curious.

I rode them today and they look fine to me.

Love,

Chris Campbell

You ought to work on your reading comprehension, CC:

1) I believed you were dumb enough to run from the MP's, but figured you embellished the story (the way you apparently embellish your Strava results) with the addition of the K-9's.; and

2) Where did I say you "destroyed" anything?

Kind of an ironic screen name for someone who pretends to be so many different people, yes?

Heard this through a reliable source: "My friend learned today from MTRP’s ranger Mel that all of Oak, Spring and all the feeder trails will be closed to hikers and bikers in 3 weeks. After that time, the rangers will be actively patrolling the canyons writing what they say are $1,700 tickets.
Apparently the catalyst for all of this is twofold:
-First there’s the interloper from Colorado [guess who?] who’s been butchering the brush on our trails so he can ride them faster. He’s also the guy who knocked off the top of the jumps on Blazing Saddles and the top of Toads, and he’s now butchering the trails out in Sycamore.
-Second is Strava. While Strava is a fun way to track your time on a given trail, it strongly encourages you to be fastest and become “King Of The Mountain”. If you have the fastest time on a trail, Strava sends you a congratulatory e-mail telling you you’re King Of The Mountain. If someone beats your time, it then sends you an e-mail encouraging you to go out there and reclaim your title. What this has done is turn our favorite trails into racetracks, which is why Colorado boy is butchering and tearing up our trails: so he can have bragging rights as the fastest.
All this means the trails are getting torn up and guys are riding like idiots, which only stirs up the trail Nazis and encourages them to take radical action.
Trail closure seems imminent. Without so much as a hearing or community involvement from the biking community, MTRP will be closing the area in 3 weeks. Unless we speak up.
If you want to ride keep riding in MTRP, you MUST get involved and speak up."

So you can thank CC, the self-centered jackass, for ruining it for all of us. Next time you see him knock him off the trail and break his bike in half. And no, I don't care that I'm old and slower than you, Chris. I ride because it's fun - especially blind corners in the bushes. Unless you built the trail, you have no right to modify it in any way.

It seems to me that the only places aside from N. county where there are actual trails, and not dirt utility truck roads, where cyclists are actually encouraged is in the Laguna Mountain National Recreation Area and on some of the trails in Cuyamaca State Park.
Everywhere else, it looks like there is a trend to criminalize trail riding by bicycle.

I'm not saying cut that Stravahole some slack, but he and his ilk are not totally responsible for the anti-bike agenda in San Diego. The Usual Suspects are still at it, and every single bike shop in town that counts mtb's as a significant share of their sales stands to feel the effect of this trend to criminalize mountain bicycle use.

Of course, you can always buy a 5,000 buck mtb to ride on the dirt roads they call "trails".....

^^^ I get what you're saying, but if the rumors about the cause of this are true, I think it's fair to lay the lion's share of the blame at one particular person's feet. Frankly, I don't really fault Mel for doing what he's doing -- it's not really possible, or responsible, to turn a blind eye to the kind of damage this one person has wrought.

And believe me, I get what your'e saying, too, and you are much more in the loop on these things than I am.

However, the crackdown at MTRP, as you know is not the only place in the San Diego area where this is happening. I might seem a bit paranoid, but I sense a trend.

and if the rumors are true, has this person broken any laws?

if so, why don't they just arrest/fine him for the damages he states here and other places he is responsible for, and claims to have spoken to the ranger about as well?

it seems clear, and perhaps should be made so to the authorities as well, that the rest of the mtn biking community does not condone his actions, and are in fact angered by them.

My initial response to this thread was that a troll was having fun but someone has been sanitizing Blazing Saddles and some others around it. Someone is cutting limbs and knocking the tops off jumps/rises in the trail. Why? Does someone's selfish desire for "faster" outweigh the rest of the mointain biking communities' reliance on these trails as a way to reap the unique benefits each rider gets by kicking up a little dust? If yes is the answer, I suggest pedaling something with 23c tires on the road. At least they won't shut down the 101 next time you decide to ride like a pompous, chest thumping, mouth breather. You may even find a group of like minded folks to ride with and later swap stories about all the idiot drivers and how you "told them" by (insert 2 year old behavior here). Seriously, ride your mountain bike and bring your friends. I'll never understand the allure of digitizing the trails and rides. It really doesn't matter if I do though. What does matter is if these idiotic antics stop me from riding MTRP or any trail. No one wants to see 4.8" of rubber mowing over a bunch of displaced dusty roadies executing a "sweet" track stand after just finishing a venti "iruineditforeveryone. "

According to a City Council staffer today, the closure is going to be effected by DF&G. DF&G is going to have to hurry and get their signs up, because as of yesterday there were none.
