Any recommendations for multi sport GPS units?
Wife has been wanting something to use when jogging/walking. She's thinking about doing a half marathon and would like help tracking time and distance. I think the GPS units would be more accurate, and :ninja: maybe something I could use on the bike as well. :ninja:
Been looking at the Garmin Forerunner 205 and 305.
Anyone have something they don't use anymore?

If she's just running you can save some $ and go with something like the Garmin FR60 with a footpod and it's just as accurate as the GPS based units. But if she's looking to run, bike, hike, swim etc. with the unit the Garmin 405 is pretty bad ass and you can get them relatively cheap through Amazon.com.

I used the FR60 for running and then a 305 for the bike. My wife uses her 405 for her Tri training and loves it. The 205 and 305 work, but look really awkward IMO, lol.

Larry,

Look into Oregan series as well. They offer too much of stuff to list in here. Here is the link:

i use the Garmin Vista Cx, but it's a brick.....might not be the best idea for a runner/jogging.

The Garmin Forerunner series is definitely multisport, with a slight tilt toward runners. The new ones have a smaller profile and look like a large watch.

Also, I'd recommend she get one with a heart rate monitor. That feature is invaluable for training, and you can't add it later to units like the 205.

I was in the Costco down off Fletcher Pwy yesterday and noticed they had Suunto GPS/HRM watch units in the watch case. Not sure which model, but I noted it was sleek and light looking.

It might even be 29'er calibrated. And ti. Possibly some carbon fiber. Mmm, fiber.

I got a 305... it looks like you have a laptop strapped to your wrist... besides that it's dope.. I use it all the time for bike, runs, and hikes.
