Tire Review Thread

I just started using the 2.35 Crossmark on the front and the 2.0 Larsen TT on the rear. I really like the setup thus far. I plan to convert to tubeless soon.

Ok going to try running a new combo 2.35/2.1 non-UST Nevegal.

Never ran a 2.1 rear for my fat ass, but trying something new.

I've ran these on my hardtail

2.35 Blue groove stick-e(front)- grips well, fat tire rolls over rocks easily, very loud
on pavement

2.35 High Roller Downhill casing(front)-grips well, knobs dont seem durable,
started chunking

2.1 nevegal dtc(rear) -amazing traction however rolling resistance is high

2.1 crossmark 70a(rear)- more loose compared to the nevegal but slide is
controlled,and rolling resistance is awesome- very fast

Switched to a non-UST tires, and on my second ride I sliced the sidewall right where the bead & rim meet on my 2.35 Nevegal on the front :cry:

Well I cut an old tire to use on as a patch for the rip in my new tire.
I patched the inside of the tire & it worked last night holding air no problem, I will see if this patch works & report back.

Yeah, now I remember why I ran UST tires now. :wink:

Ima still diggin' on the neve rear and high roller front combo. The only thing is I havent given the bike a whole lot of attention lately and the tubeless conversion I did on the rear came "undone" after a ride several weeks back and I haven't taken the time to redo it.

Hey I'm running this combo right now too. I'm debating switching back to the blue groove up front since the fatter tire seemed to roll across rocks a lot easier at a trade-off of being slightly less responsive in steering at least in my perspective. I've been riding La Costa lately and since there's a lot of rocks I wonder if it would be a benefit. Would you mind giving me any input? Thanks a lot

It feels to me that the Highroller handles La Costa better. Maybe a couple reasons, one of 'em being that the Highroller is a 2.7 so I have a whole lotta floatation, and its a tackier rubber than the Blue Groove I was using which was a 2.5 by the way. I run a pretty low pressure up front too, prolly not the most "conventional" set-up, but works fors me. :wave:

I tried out the Specialized Eskar 2.3 and was running them UST. I loved the tread, good roll and good traction. I F-ing hate the sidewalls. Specialized's "2Bliss" technology sucks. It may be because DT's were on all the rides when the sidewalls tore, but it happened 3 times (Calavera with RHS and Clyde, ATT with Evdog and Lake Hodges with MTBBill). I can't believe they spec these tires on the Enduro. I would gladly take the weight gain if that meant I could ride the tire hard and not have to walk back to the car. Now I have two tires with 75% tread that are unusable, at least as UST.

I now have a 2.35 Maxxis HighRoller on the front and a 2.35 Maxxis Ignitor on the rear. I like how the HR tracked up front last week at La Costa. Rode the Ignitor for the first time Monday night at Hodges and it seemed to roll well.

First of all, thanks to everyone who posted on this topic. I've still got a lot to learn about MTB'ing and forums like this eliminate at least some of the error in trial and error.

I'm now a big fan of the Kenda Small Block 8's that came stock on my new bike, but it took a while to get used to them, having run WTB Velociraptors on my old hardtail. The SM8s are very, very fast in a straight line and much more predictable in corners than tires with a square profile. I've read reviews knocking the sidewalls, but I haven't flatted in 6 months.

I do about 80% of my riding at Spring Canyon/Oak Canyon because of the proximity to my home, but these tires have performed well at Daley Ranch, Sycamore Canyon, the Cuyamacas, and ATT.
