Okay I'm a dipshit too. I went to put a new shifter cable on my bike and screwed it up. I have X-9 thumb shifters, and to change the cable I took the wrong cover off. I took the cover off on the side that had the thumb lever, I was supposed to take the side off opposite of that. Anyway When I lifed the thumb lever side up there was a spring in there that came "unsrung" and now I can't get it back in there correctly and there is also a couble other pices in there that need to be aligned a certain way. My shop mechanic is gone till Monday. The other two guys in the shop looked at me and laughed. Has anyone here been as stupid as me and done this to an X-9 and can figure out how to get it back? Now don't go trying to explain it to me via email or in here or telling me to look at the manual, I did that. Theres a reason they don't show the side I took apart, it's not supposed to be taken apart there to begin with. Somebody up here in north County want a 12pack of suds? Fix my shifter. I need to ride tomorrow like wickid bad. I have a 12 pack of Miller Lite (I know it's crap beer but it's been sitting in my fridge for two months and I don't drink). Fix it and the beer is your's. Oh There six pacifico's in there two you can have too.

Supple your the bomb! I owe you brother!
As you can see, this is a nightnare.
I can take apart and put back together a 13 millon dollar Guided Missile Launching System, but I can put a 90 dollar shifter back together.

p.s. Do CPO's still wear khaki or has the stupid "feel good" police changed that too? I saw some squids down in San Diego the other day (a PO3 and PO5) and couldn't belive my eyes. What the hell are the uniforms gonna be next, baggies and sports jerseys that hang to the knees? Holy crap I think that new uniform looks like ass. I miss my good ole bell bottom dungarees I wore in the 80's. Still have a couple pair in my storage. Hey if you pick up Chief this year you can have ALL my uniforms if they fit you.

Okay Supple1 I got it all put back together with the help of the link you posted. Thanks for the help!

What a pain in the ass. The top cap cover bolt would not come off and that is why I removed the whole bolt assemaby as one piece. I didn't have a choice. When i was unsrewinging the top cap it all came out as one piece. I had to use channel locks and pliers to remove the cap from the center bolt. Man they had it jacked so tight in there I was worried I would break it. All is well now. Now changing the cable will be a piece of cake but holy crap the thumb lever side was a pain in the ass. I'm not taking that apart again.

How about if you just come down and borrow my bike since you need to ride badly. That is the best thing I can do right at this moment for you buddy. Keep the Miller for yourself, instead go out and ride and don't miss a great day of riding.

Let me know if you are coming down to Chula Vista.
:hello:

Don't feel like such a dipshit. That stuff is not always obvious (unlike a guided missile system!?). I don't know about SRAM, but I was popping the cover off my Shimanos to change the cable for years. Just three little screws, easy. Then I finally realized that the one plastic screw plug on the side was so you could replace the cable without taking it apart at all...duh, even easier...!

edit: Of course, another way to look at it is I'm a dipshit too, despite, like you, repairing complicated multimillion dollar equipment for years. Oh well...

Dude they are Fing around with all the uniforms. Have you seen the crazy cammies yet? Best part is we can't were them ANYWHERE. Basically they can only be worn on base, you can't get gas, pick up your kid from school, go to the ATM. Straight to work and home, these clowns we have running shit have lost their minds. Hopefully this will be my year for CPO, but we'll see.
