No, not this POS

or this one

^^^ This POS. Nobby Nic 2.8 with 11 spots along the center seam leaking. You would think for a $100 tire it would be build a little better than this fine example.

Post up your comments on this tire or any suggestions for a rear 2.8 plus replacement.

Wow - even my cheap ~$30-ish tires don't fail on me like that. It's usually a side slash from a rock that does them in. But for a premium tire to split at the seam? That seems seriously wrong. Perhaps your LBS could argue on your behalf to someone to replace them?

Kimba, what were those weepers you were running on your SC a while back?

And to the question at hand:

Front: Maxxis Minion DHF plus: http://www.maxxis.com/catalog/tire-540-135-minion-dhf-plus

Rear: Plenty of choices. I like my WTB Breakout, but no 2.8 available. Maybe the WTB Trailblazer 2.8 TCS/Tough?: http://www.wtb.com/products/trailblazer?variant=38815076623 or Maxxis HR II plus?: http://www.maxxis.com/catalog/tire-539-135-high-roller-ii-plus

A lot of my tires have weeped like that. It's not a big deal, just check the stans more often. It doesn't seem to affect performance at all.

The issue I had with a minion dhf recently was more puzzling. It was weeping from the sidewalls all the way around both sides. And not just a bit "wet", it was running down and dripping on the floor. Again didn't affect the ride but it was annoying. Tire was getting worn down so it was recently replaced. Same tire as replacement has had no weeping.

Yep, it's been getting more wet spots for the last month. Just trying to run some more life outta it before replacing

I've had the same thing happen with a set of Schwalbes NN and RR.

Some older Maxxis Aspens leaked nearly as bad as the issue Ev described.

I ran them both until they were worn out. I just checked the Stans more often than usual.

Seems to vary tire to tire even with the same make and model. I almost exclusively run Maxxis

I agree that a high end tire should not do that.

Over time, my DHF also starts to 'sweat' out Stan's on the sidewalls. I don't care because I've never ever experienced a better front tire. And it doesn't seem to pose any issues. Mine never dripped so much that it plopped drops on the floor though. I'm on the DH, wire bead version though.

You should try the DHR up front. I read about it on MTBR and ran the 2.4 DHR up front on my 27.5 bike. It was awesome all-around in Downieville and I think it was my grippiest front tire ever until I loaded the E13 TRS Race 2.35 on my Intense Primer 29er. Most confidence inspiring front tire I've ever ridden.

DH(Front). DH(Rear). At least that's the theory. Although, the interweb suggests lots of guys run DHF on both front and rear. I've seen a couple posts like yours, where guys put the DHR up front and prefer it over the DHF.

The DHF works so damned well for me up front (again - better than anything else I've ever tried), that I'm scared to experiment. Fronts last so long that you're stuck with your decision for quite a while. Sidenote: I'm not sure if I would like any other version as much as the wire bead, Super Tacky.

What pressures do you run? I'm about 18-19 front and 20-21 psi rear.

DHF front and rear is a great setup with most all of the trails being so loose right now. I run the smaller DHF on the rear of my Reign.

The pressure changes based on location. I run mid 20s front and upper 20s rear at La Costa, with less pressure at Calavera.

I hear ya. It's always best and safest to find something you like and run with it. I have a friend that jumps from tire to tire faster than a meal goes thru my system. I'm not sure if he's in search of the Holy Grail of tires or just feels obligated to try every new tire that comes out. That new Nobby Nic 2.6 with the Addix compound was just announced on Pinkbike 3-4 days ago and he had it installed yesterday one his Mojo 3. Even worse, he pays a shop to do all the tire changes!!

To be honest, I've never tried the DHF yet so I'm not not trying to imply the DHR is better. I tried a DHR because is was a 2.4 which in the Maxxis world = a 2.3  The standard Maxxis 2.3 is generally narrower than I have come to prefer. I like thick & meaty. I do have the DHF 2.6 on order to put on my Pivot 5.5 when it comes in.

I run 22-24 PSI up front and 24-26 PSI on the rear. I'm not super picky unless I'm riding something I know has potential issues like Palm Canyon.

I'll be interested on your take of the 2.6 DHF.
