I finally received my lights today! I had ordered them last month, but there was a mix-up on my shipping address and billing address and it was sent to the wrong place. I emailed deal extreme and they were on it and took care of the problem.
I had totally forgotten about the lights and when I got home tonight from lab, the lights were waiting for me!

These lights are smaller than my old lights, they are lower profile and much better built.
My old lights I have had them about 3 years now, I paid $45 a set for the old ones and I paid $47 a set for the new ones. I can get a set similar to my old ones for only $23 today!

I tested out the two different lights in the living room. My old lights were rated at 900 lumens on high setting, and the new lights are 1800 lumens. When I have them turned on, the new lights at medium setting are about as bright as my old lights are high settings. The light color of the new lights is whiter, where the old lights were a little yellowish. On high setting, the new lights are about twice as bright as my old lights.

New Light: ***My phone camera changes the setting automatically, so comparing photo to photo for brightness is not accurate. Use these photos to see the pattern only.

Here are some more pics of the light:

Conclusion:
Pros: I'm impressed with the new light's quality, brightness and price. For $47 I got a complete package, with 1800lm, a battery pack with batteries, straps to mount the lights and battery pack and I got a head mount that will be converted to a helmet mount. The light itself is really small.

Cons: The light gets hot really fast in high setting, so use high setting only when riding to give it good cooling. The light pattern is not as diffused as I would like it to be, but it's more diffused than my old light.

Final thought: I'm glad I bought these lights, now I will enjoy me some night riding.

Let us know how many hours you get out of the battery when you get a chance to use them.

Cool.. thanks for the posts. Do you have a link? I've been looking for night riding lights as well. You said Deal Extreme, but which lights exactly? Is this the one? http://www.dxsoul.com/product/ultrafire ... 8lPmfldW8A

Thanks!

I like how Abz compares and rates the lights. He is a master rater.

Tis the season for night riding with the time change coming.
Anyone purchase these lights and if so, did you have good luck with them as Abz did?
I had one of my two die this Wednesday night and looking to get some more soon

Prior to Abz post I tried these lights and they failed but I was impressed with the lumens. Since the research I followed Abz lead and bought the ones with the U2 code; been doing 2-3 weekly evening/night rides and no problems. The triple bulb lights throw is not as far as the double, seems to fade, so I run the double on my helmet. I changed the mounting hardware, didn't like the rubber bands, to cygolite mounts, $12. Awesome set up, I've done 1.5-2 hr rides with the lights and no problems.

I bought a couple of these recently and have had them for a few rides so far.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F9U ... UTF8&psc=1

They are $17 each which includes free shipping, battery, lamp, o-rings, charger (no helmet/bar mount).

They are listed as 5,000 lumens but I would say more like 800-1000. More than enough for me.

They are compatible with Magicshine batteries so that is good. And they are compact/light.

One thing of note the curved part that sits on your bars does not fit a 31.8 bar, just 25.6 or whatever the old dimension was. Maybe its possible to rig something up.
