First I want to thank Doug at North of the Boarder Bicycles for welcoming me and treating me well at his shop.

Now that I'm injured, I have some time to post non-political bullshit.

Last September my 2010 Demo 8 was having some issues. I Taco-Belled the front wheel at Teds, then I started having brake issues and then we I fixed everything, the rebuilt wheels felt too heavy to enjoy. So I sold that Demo 8.

My old bike

In Feburary I bought a 2011 demo 8 for a good price, but then I had to spend a lot of money to fix it up to my standards. I built new wheels, installed new brakes, new tires, rebuild the fork. I thought I was done, then I the rear shock start to lose air, and I didn't know what to do.

1] I could send the rear shock to GarageWorks suspension in Carlsbad, but I bought a fork from them last year and it had a lot of problems, so I was hesitant to use them again.

2] Rebuild the shock myself, but I didn't want to dive down into something complicated, and the tools and parts would total me the same price as Garageworks would charge me.

3] Buy a new shock and not deal with this bullshit anymore.

My New Bike

Because I'm a college student and am broke, I tried to open the shock with the tools I had, but I didn't have any luck. So I decided to buy the tools and parts and get the work done myself.

Image

I order all of the parts and tools and started to open the shock.

Hhhhmmmmmmm....... This is actually not too difficult. All of the parts look pretty straight forward.

I didn't figure out where it was leaking air from, but I one of the plastic rings was damaged.
I changed the oil, changed all of the o-rings and such. Then I put it all back together.

While adjusting the rebound knob, I unscrewed it too much and broke the rebound knob into two.

Broken Rebound part

The shock is rebuilt, but the rebound knob is broken. Doug at NOB will hopefully have a new one for me soon.

So, my shock is not done yet, and my bike is still sitting in the bedroom not fixed. But once the rebound knob comes in, the bike will be back to Beastiality!

The rebuild was very straight forward and pretty simple. If you have done a complete rebuild of a RockShox fork, then rebuilding the Vivid air is pretty simple.

I'm not broke because I'm in college, I'm broke because I spent too much on my bicycles.

I did the same sort of thing this past weekend. I rebuilt the DHX 3 coil over on my bike. The weekend before it started leaking fluid from what looked like the rebound adjust area. I took it apart and went to Marshalls and got new o-rings. I couldn't find the one for the shock shaft where the rebound needle goes into the shock shaft. The old o-ring looked OK so I put it back in with the new rings. Shock is working good so far. Definitely feel a difference from the old with the new suspension fluid in place. No leaks when I pressureized the boost . It was really easy. There is a sticky thread on the Pinkbike site that I downloaded the instructions from. Very good instructions.

Wait!! What? One minute you're happily jerking off on Noble, and now you're injured? I can't find the post explaining this. What happened? Whatever it was, I hope you heal up quickly.

Maybe he missed a stroke on Noble and injured his wrist?

Actually it is related to masterbating. On Saturday my friends were riding Teds, and so I decided to go out there and ride with them, but I had to watch porn first. Because my DH bike is down right now, I took my trail bike. By the time I got there, everyone had done one run, and I was pushing up to the top.
Turns out one of my friends separated his shoulder and ripped some ligaments on the first run. Ride4Life got to the bottom as I was getting close to the top and I called him and told him to wait for me and we can do a few more runs. I rode down, and then shuttle to the top for a second run.

On the second run we decided to ride 4G's. For those who don't know 4G's, the following video from LanceUpperCut is it.

So I was on my trail bike and going way too fast and the trail spit me out [section 1:13 in the video above], but I was trying to hold it together. I leaned the bike to get back on the trail, but my bike dropped down rocks as I was leaning and I fell. My foot got caught between the ground and my bike. The front half of my right foot twisted one direction and the back half twisted with my body the opposite direction. My foot has been swollen for four days now and I have been on crutches because I cannot walk. You can see in the photo below one foot is swollen compared to the other, it was a lot worse on Sunday compared to the photo which was just taken.

I'll be back on my bike soon.

Great video by lanceuppercut! But, yeah, chunky. Ouch. Hope you got it x-rayed. I guess there's a lesson there for us about riding a familiar trail on a less-capable bike. Heal up!!!

Yeah we are! I think it's the pursuit of speed that is causing it.
