Hey Guys, I have a delema here. I have an 07 ironhorse 6point8 with great componentes but i really dont like the bike all around. I'm considering a few options heere.

1 Sell it for a major loss -- 5k new down to about 2k if im lucky.
2 Part the bike out and use the cash to buy something I like.
3 Find a frame and swap/sell/trade components.

I like option 3 personally but I don't know where to start on which frame to look for and what will swap over. I'm looking more for a XC build rather thanAM but I would like the bike to take a hit here and there.

I think the fork and wheels set on the IH are too beefy for an XC build and would prob sell those first. I would also be changing te crank.

If i go from a 2 cog crank to a 3 would i need a different front derailer?

see, i don't know all this shit :)

anyway here are the specs on the IH

I guess it all depends on the frame if you go that route. If you go to a 3 ring crank you would need a long cage RD and new chain. Not sure if the front would be compatible. The brakes would be a keeper, but you might need new adapters depending on the fork choice. Fork choice also depends on frame headtube set up - 1.5 vs 1 1/8. Seat and bars could be swapped over. If you go to a 1 1/8 fork you would need a new stem. The wheels could be lightened up by going with a smaller tire. You might be better off finding someone who has a similar quality XC bike to trade for your AM/Freeride rig. I've also seen people making pretty decent cash parting bikes out. The parts you listed are all high end so that could be another way. Good luck either way.

I think I will try to get rid of the fork, wheels, and shock first and see what I can come up with.

I'm considering a Yeti frame for the swap. Any other recommendations? i don't know where to start on frame choice

i would just rather trade your bike as a whole for something thats fully deck'd out rather than parting it out or selling it $3000 cheaper than how much you got em.

i was in the same category but i have the 7point, i pretty much ride this bike for xc, am, fr, dh run but ever since i moved here in SD i dont do much of DH riding anymore and i was actually contemplating whether to sell or trade my bike for an AM bike. but my 7point is too pimp'd out to settle for something less so ive decided to keep it and just enjoy riding it..

but seriouslly i would look around on pinkbike and search if theres anyone out there from CO that has a fully built XC bike and just trade yours.. atleast you wouldnt feel as bad since you trade it in for something thats worth almost the same as yours..
