Been riding my trusty Pivot for two years now and besides having flats once a month before I went to tubeless, it's never let me down. I've loved riding it and it was time to pay it back a little so I decided to freshen up the suspension.
I started on the Fox Float 140 which has never seen the full 140. Maybe a 110 on a good day and reading about them I guess many are like this.
So I tore it down and then cut 15mm off the air side rod and re-drilled the hole to replace the roll pin. This is to increase the volume is what I have read. Installed new seals, oil, and aired it up.

The rear has a RP23 like many bikes do today. I had an old triad shock laying around so I rebuild that one since this was my first time tearing on down. It was in the "stuck down" position but it came apart easily after placing a rag through the bottom eyelet. After 5 minutes that puppy was good as new so I tore into my shock. Real straight forward repair that you can DIY without an issue.

After a morning stroll through some funnels and any bump I could find I was back in love with this bike. I'm getting full travel up front that I didn't even have when brand new. For about $50 I rebuilt the fork and two rear shocks. Great investment and a fun learning experience too.
If you have a tired old shock I would give it a shot.

Can you give us a link to that fork mod? It sounds interesting.

Took the bike out after work today in Riverside and I have to say, the fork has never been better. Finally getting full travel and not so harsh as before. Money well spent
