Looking to toss one on the front end this weekend. I noticed a lot of great reviews but most everyone state they have Hans Dampf but don't say what model.
Looks like they have Pacestar, Performance, or Trailstar.
If you have these tires, what are you running and why?

Thanks

Never ran Pacestar

Performance line sucks. Its a harder compound and breaks traction to easily and start sliding around and too much.

Trailstar is nice. Its a soft compund and bites real nice it does wear a bit faster than Performance because of that but wear is pretty decent on them.

Vertstar is the softest of them all and wear VERY fast. Definitely good traction but to me not worth the money for how fast they wear

This is my experience with Muddy Mary's, Wicked Will's, and Big Betty's

I run Trail Stars on my Tracer and Pacestars on the XC bike. The trail stars have a soft compound that wear faster, while the pace stars are built to be fast rolling tires. For a front I would suggest a trail star unless you're looking for something more durable then Pace Star would be your bet.

The performance line is for the budget minded that still want a little bit of schwalbe performance. They're usually heavier and don't go tubeless as well as the Evo series tires (Trail/Pace Star compounds). Here's a link to Schwalbe's break down of the compounds: http://www.schwalbetires.com/triple_star_compound_page

+1 on what everyone else has said.

I ran a set of the Trailstars and they wore out SUPER fast. Knobs were just ripping right off the tire. After that I tried a set of the harder compound Pacestar, and while those were a little better, they still wear out a lot faster than I'd like for how much the tires cost.

FWIW, a buddy of mine is running the cheaper (and hardest compound) Performance version and is also finding that they wear out very fast.

I've since moved onto the single-ply folding bead Minion DHF and haven't looked back. They work great tubeless (Stans rims), weigh about the same as the Hans Dampfs, and have better edge grip for about the same price (perhaps a tad cheaper).

I have Trailstar up front and Performance (Pacestar?) on the rear tire. The front tire is great, the rear tire not so much. Agree with Motomonster that Performance breaks traction too much, the knobs also shred off way too easy. I am considering putting Kenda SB8 back on as the rear tire as that tire does not break traction and performs better.

Any issues running tubeless with Stans?
I did that with my Nevs and it's the best "upgrade" I ever did

The Performance line also does not have the 'snakeskin' sidewalls as far as I know.

I'm running the Trailstar up front and the Pacestar out back and I don't like them. Like the others, the rear breaks loose too easily and wear/tear too fast.
No problems with Stan's on these. I did have trouble with Stan's when I was running Nevegals. That's the only reason I tried the Schwalbes, otherwise I would have stuck with Kendas.

I'm running Trailstars front and rear. About 1,000 mile on them and no problem so far, tread is maybe a little more than half gone on the rear and little less than half on the front. All the knobs are fine. I just rode them in Utah for the better part of a week and no damage to them.

The front is totally awesome the rear breaks away a bit on steep loose climbs. Its cause me to stall out a couple times. Its great on cornering though.

I have them mounted tubeless on Enve's using Orange Seal. They were very easy to mount but I did use a compressor to seat them. Didn't try a pump because I had the compressor sitting there but I'd guess they would have been pretty easy to mount with a pump.

The rolling resistance is only slightly more than the Maxxis High Rollers that came on my bike and 100% better than the Nevagals I ran on my Trance.

They are high volume and do well at lower pressure both tubed and tubeless.

Anyway, that's my .02...

I ran performance line front and rear for several months and hated them. The unpredictable breakaway is the worst I've experienced by far. The hype behind these tires is beyond me. Running high roller 2s now and couldn't be happier.

I haven't run the Hans but have run the knobby nics and the racing Ralphs in the pace star compound. Both of these tires were great when new, with the racing Ralphs the rear tire wore out within 200 miles the side nobs tore off, They became terrible tires. My knobby nics lasted longer but did the same thing within 400 miles I'm going back to Maxxis tires.

I picked up a Trailstar today at BB for the front and I have had but never installed a Slant 6 for the rear. Try to get them on tomorrow and try em out. Thanks to all for your input
