I am thinking of getting a truing stand. any input on the two Park stands? Is the 2.2 really worth the extra money? I currently don't plan on building simply routine truing.
Any non Park alternatives worth looking at?
Thanks

I got a cheapo Performance stand a long time ago that works fine you are welcome to borrow. I think you also left a camera holder in my truck a few months ago....

Look into the details, I think the more expensive one can also be used to true 29er wheels, while the cheaper one is mainly 26inch wheels and smaller. I have the more expensive one, and it works really well for me, but I have built a few sets of wheels and true wheels often.

Park TS-2 Professional Truing Stand, and build your own wooden base for it.

Kimba,
Thanks for the offer. I've got gift card to Rei and with my dividend and the 20% off I could get the ts-8 for next to nothing; sorta the reason for my post. Regarding the camera bag, I haven't noticed anything missing. what's it look like?

abzillah,
yeah wheel size/axle style compatibility is on my radar. both of them (new) are listed as 26/29 friendly by Park. Not sure about older versions...

I saw a few threads on mtbr with comments along the same lines as those here. Cheap=OK.
ts-2 for anything more than minor truing.

Thanx.

i have an el-cheapo performance stand. i believe it does 700's. i've built wheels with it, and it works fine. the only argument i would give for *not* going cheap is it would have been nice to have a two-sided stand. using my stand, you have to flip the wheel over several times. this can make getting dished easier, however, as the rim can be centered on the hub if you set the feelers right and don't touch them.

I'm confused. Are you saying that dishing is easier with a single caliper? That's counter to what I've read. Course I'm getting into that which I know nothing.

Well, I haven't done it with a dual, but once the feelers are in the right place on the single, they're guaranteed to measure the same distance on each side.
