It's time to replace the seals and possibly service the air cartridge and damper in my fox fork(2009 F120 RL). This will be my first time doing the service on this fork myself but I have replaced the seals and oil in my Marzochi 888's before and I'm assuming it's going to be pretty similar. I found some good information regarding the seals and oil on PB, Fox's site and a couple other sites, but none address servicing the damper or air cartridge. Couple of questions for anyone that can answer:
I've found conflicting oil charts(both from fox) about what type oil to use on the spring size, 7W or 10W, the amount is the same but is there going to be an issue if I use 10W in both legs?
Other than letting the air out, is there anything else I need to do with the air cartridge?
Any other tips would be appreciated.

When you say oil on the air spring side... do you mean the oil in the lower leg (which just lubes the bushings) or the oil in the actual air chamber?

If you mean the air chamber itself then it should be the Fox "float fluid". Nothing much to service on the air side other than the air piston seal, which you might as well change if you're taking it apart.

Per Fox, there's 160ML Green 10W Damper side oil bath, 30ML Green 10W spring side oil bath and 5ML float fluid in the air chamber.
The fork hasn't been holding air the last few rides so I'm assuming the piston seal needs to be replaced, I just couldn't find any information on servicing the piston.

This isn't specifically for the F120, but it should be mostly the same -

http://service.foxracingshox.com/consum ... ervice.htm

The link doesn't specifically show how to "service" the air piston, but seriously it's just a rubber ring on the end of the piston that you pop off and replace with a new one.

No worries. Tons of other information at that site too (http://service.foxracingshox.com/consumers/) including full damper rebuild procedures, oil volumes, travel spacers, etc.

So I gave it a go today, I had the oil, seals and all the replacement kits ready for a full rebuild on the fork. Timskalabim came over and we pulled the lowers off, changed all the seals on the damper side...then I pull the spring side out.... my fat ass somehow managed to break the smaller of the two springs and brought the fork overhaul project to a screeching stop. I learned a lot, just hoping Fox can get me what I need to get back on the trails

You rode that clapped out fork too long with it like that. I bet you broke that spring at Nobel or on Nascar last week. Looks like no riding for you this week :(

It was the top out spring that broke, that explains the weird noise going down Nobel and Nascar. Fox doesn't sell just the spring, I have to by the whole air shaft assembly, I really didn't want to have to take apart the old assembly anyway. It's in stock and I should have it waiting on my door step when I get home Thursday. Pretty happy with Fox so far.
