My thinking on the loctite on chainring bolts is that it would make them more difficult to remove as the female end would be more likely to spin and you'd need to use the obnoxious chainring bolt tool on the back side to remove it. But yeah like you say all just opinions and as long as you keep the red loctite far far away you can't go too wrong.

There no "nuts" on the middle ring of the XT crank set.
