So after my last crash I got a big bone bruise on the heel of my palm. It's still quite painful so I want to get a pair of gloves that has a hard heel pad to protect that area. Anyone have a recommendation for a glove that has a pad to protect that area?

No recommendation for gloves, but I do feel compelled to quote:

Quote:
Doctors should assume that any patient who has fallen on an outstretched hand and has swelling or tenderness on the thumb side of the wrist has a scaphoid fracture. You should assume this until tests prove otherwise. X-rays taken immediately after the injury may not show a fracture.

Scaphoid avascular necrosis really really sucks!

Mechanix M-Pact. Usually available at Pep Boys, etc. (I think they were about $26). After smacking the shit out of my hand on a fall, I went to these and am happy now.

The bomber i saw didn't have any protection on the palm.

This is the glove I was leaning towards but it costs a lot.

I like the Giro Xen's. Kinda pricy but breathe able and they got padding on the palms.

If the pain is on the pinky side of your palm, then I would switch to using different bars. I've found that swept bars (15 degrees or more) are the cure for my hand issues regarding pinky pain and numbness. There are a few options now on the market. You will likely need a longer stem on some of the bars to not affect the reach.

Here's a fun test. Stand up and put your arms down at your sides and clench a fist while allowing your wrist to stay neutral (not bent to one side or another). Bring your hands up to a position where you would hold handlebars. Now look at where the line through your hands would be. It's about 15 to 20 degrees from the straight line that typical MTB bars force your hands into. Using straight bars, you are forcing your wrists to rotate in, which puts more force onto the outside of your hand which causes the pinky pain.

I'm not a doctor nor do I play one on TV. I'm just a random MTBer who has found swept bars beneficial for my wrist which was broken years ago and badly set.
