Welcome Joel! I assume you're living in San Diego County somewhere. We can suggest some trails (or check www.mountainbikebill.com for riding areas) and keep an eye on the Calendar for group rides.

Joel, San Marcos has lots of riding nearby. If you started this year, you're probably familiar with Lake Hodges and Daley Ranch. Hit up Lake Calavera for variety and more technical challenge (easier to find with a local to show you) and if you're ready for more climbing, head over to to La Costa and Elfin Forest.

^^^ Screw the neighborhood cardio, man. Skip right to the dirt. Might as well be developing some trail skills while your cardio is improving. Meanwhile, gasp for breath and walk your bike up the hills like a lot of us do. No shame in that as long as you're having fun.
