I've noticed something lately that is really annoying. It could be just my crappy computer causing problems, but I'm interested to see if anyone else is having the same problem.

When I'm writing a PM and the text fills more than that little text box, what starts to happen while I'm typing is that the cursor will stay at the bottom where it should be, but each time I type a new letter the text box will scroll up near the top so I can't see what I'm typing. Hit another key and it will flash down to what I'm typing for a split second and then flash back to the top. It makes it almost impossible to type, aside from just being incredibly annoying.

This doesn't seem to happen when typing replies in threads, doesn't happen every time I write a PM, and doesn't happen right when the text fills the box, but it usually starts to happen a bit further down, and is worst when I'm typing at the bottom of the text (if I move the cursor up to change something I'd written earlier it usually doesn't do this til I go back to the bottom again)

Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, its a character count setting I believe. I'll see if I can increase it. I'm not sure what its set at but I'll take a look and see if that will make a difference. It happens to me when I have lotsa characters in my pms, and when I overload a post in a thread with too much text...give it a few minutes...I'll post up when its reset, and then you can test to see if it makes a difference please.

I have noticed it when writing long TR's and I am copying/pasting lots of image links. When I go to type in info above the image link, the cursor jumps all over the place. Thanks for looking into this RHS!

Well, it may seem inconvenient, but what you can do is type your novels in microsoft word and then copy and paste into your pm.
I have encountered the issue as well and I usually just end up ignoring the wierd scroll issue or cut it short and get to my point.
I think though, that the issue stems from the width of the forum. I could change the height/width parameters but it could have an adverse affect on the forum aspect/graphics itself. Right now its set to php recomendations.

I've never noticed it in threads, just when writing PMs. And its only been in the last couple months as far as I can recall. Any changes you've made Pete during that time that you can think of that may have caused this?

This forum is definitely more narrow than most. He is a screen shot from my monitor.

True, it does happen much more often in pm's than threads, but I have it happen in threads once in awhile.
I havent made any changes to board settings other than adding extra forums/subforums. In that case I think it would be more of a bandwidth issue, which I dont think we have. I do notice once in awhile I need to clear my "board cookies". I havent checked to see if that helps or not, it would prolly be too difficult to quantify for any tangible evidence. Just in case though, anytime you feel the board is getting slow or whatever, you can clear your board cookies by scrolling down to the base of the forums, theres a link for "Board Cookies" and a link for "The Team". Click on "Board Cookies", its above "Whos Online" and below the forums, it will take you to a new screen for confirmation as to whether or not you want to clear your board cookies, by clicking "Yes", it will clear the board cookies and log you off, then you can just log right back on.
But, I dont believe that would have an effect on the pm issue.
