I have ridden with lots of different groups and the dirttreaders are by far the most accomodating, friendly and supporting group. It is due to the philosophy as expressed by the "Ambassador" Red Hot Sloth. Everybody has fun, we all get pushed gently to try new things, we all help each other to reach those goals, help with mechanicals, and generally are good to each other. I like it very much!

As an example, at La Costa, we usually session the rock wall. Some of us show how its done, some of us try it, eventually about everyone makes it, and that's because a bunch of us are spotting so the rider trying it for the first time can really gas it and not worry about a compound fracture, which you need to do in order to make it.

Before riding with DTs, I had tried it but never made it. With the DTs I made it because of the support and cheering.

It's so much nicer than other sitautions where your failure is another's boost. Here its your improvement makes everyone happy.

I feel warm and fuzzy now.

Right-On Kimba!
Whats so great is that everyone is so willing to share their knowledge and provide the help and a little gentle nudging.
I am very glad to be a part of this community and always look forward to riding with the group.

Cool. This is the first time I've seen this thread, but my experience with DT has been exactly this.

My first ride at La Costa and Noble... I lagged so bad and totally ate it hard, but I was never made to feel like I held up the group or wrecking anyones fun.

I definitely attribute the progression of my "skills" to the DT community and everyone's willingness to teach... and provide some gentle "DO IT YOU PUSSY" nudging. I wouldn't have the "balls" to try anything out otherwise. Luckily, I have one, so I'm not offended when people yell that out.

I meant luckily I have a pussy... Not balls!

i can attest to what a classy bunch dters are. last april i ask if i can tag along on the dt fat tire festival trip. i'm just some internet stranger who asks to come, but they are totally friendly and accommodating. i could say the same about every dt ride, but this was a big trip, and if it was my trip, i doubt i would tell an internet stranger it is ok to come. they never say, 'hurry up' or anything other than encouragement, even when it is obvious i have a bad case of vaginitis on descents or any sketchy feature. so thanks to all dirttreaders, and special thanks to gppilot, stang, evdog, bjammin, offroadie, sladnas, quaestionis, and... whatever richard's handle is. i'm really happy to have found dt.com.

edit: and yeah, never seen this thread. thanks for the bump. i wonder what other posts are buried on page 1...
