I have some photos I would like to share, but when I try and upload them the file is too big. I admit I am a computer idiot, but I have uploaded to the web and not had any problems. Help a caveman understand: please.

I use photo bucket. Upload to photo bucket,
then resize, then link to the thread.
Hope this helps.

there has to be a size limit. if you resize to like 400x600, it should let you upload...

One of the easiest Photo hosting services/sites is Imageshack. That's what I use.

http://www.imageshack.us/

Select "Browse". Choose the pics you want hosted from your computer.

Below that, click the "Resize Image" box and choose your size from the drop down menu. I use 640x480.

Also check the "Remove size/resolution bar from thumbnail" box.

Select "Start Upload".

Once pics have loaded, choose the "Direct Link to Image" option. You will have many options available. For posting pics here, ignore them all and select "Direct Link to Image". Copy that address.

Come back here, and click the "Img" tab in the message tools menu. When you do, the cursor will automatically be flashing in between the brackets. Paste the "direct link to image" address for your picture there. It's just that easy.

What they said above is probably the way to go. Or, you should be able to resize them using software already on your computer, either that came with your camera that you then installed, or pre-installed on your computer. Using that software, open the picture you want to resize, and look under the "edit" or "tools" menus for "resize". Resize it and save it with a slightly different file name (I put an 's' on the end for the smaller version). That way you still have the higher-resolution version for printing or whatever. Then you can just attach it to your post.
