Got up early to share the morning with jackrabbits and lizards. The deserted ribbons of asphalt were nice, but even so I chose the pole line roads, ridges, and washes for the stimulation of shifting traction and solitude. Even long stretches of wheel-sucking sand put an invisible smile on my face.
