Favorite Trails: The Googliest
Today turned into a solo ride at La Costa. After going up Switchbacks I was greeted by the new flag installtion at the top. Pretty nice job.

After a fun run down Vista Del Mar, I decided to do some exploring of the other trails in the Rancho La Costa Reserve, or whatever it is called.

I started by going up the fireroad on the east side by the powerlines and then went SW into the field area. I thought I would be restricted to the field but learned the preserve has fingers that have legal trail heading into different parts of the neighborhood, and it appears, La Costa Canyon HS.

After exploring these cool new finds, I went back to explore the field area.

Interesting looking horses. I suspect the field is really theirs originally.

I then explored the deep canyon between La Costa hill and the water tower hill to its east. No pictures since it was a steep up and down sufferfest.

After making it back to the top, I went down Switchbacks and almost ran into another rider who was futzing around on the middle rock drop between the two big rocks on the way down. Did a trackstand almost and made it around the guy on the upside, on the rock. I still cannot figure out what he was doing there standing on the rock drop holding his bike perpendicular to the line. Anyway, it was all good.

I have not had a solo ride for a while so this was kinda nice even though it was not the plan originally.

Nice. Notice the solar-powered light for the flag. Not sure, but maybe the deep canyon you're talking about is the historic copper mine area, technically off-limits on private property, but interesting in many ways.

Favorite Trails: The ones with dirt on them!
aka; Denk Tank Mountain.

Site of 3 copper mines owned by Encinitas Copper & Smelting Company back on the late 1800's.

There's one about 1/2 way up Vista Del Mar, and another about 1/2 way down NASCAR. Check out the tailings on the ground next time you're up there. You'll find small rocks with a copper green patina tarnish on them.
