I'm going to Moab and have two spaces open in my vehicle. If you're interested going, PM me.

3/Oct: Leave Encinitas in the evening. Try to get to Las Vegas area, find a camp site.
4/Oct: Get to St. George, UT, get a campsite and ride Gooseberry Mesa.
5/Oct: St. George area riding.
6/Oct: Head to Moab. Check in at the hotel (I'm staying at The Virginian) and ride the Slickrock trail.
7/Oct: Ride Porcupine Rim (shuttle)
8:/Oct: "Easy day" drive and a bit of hiking in Arches National Park.
9/Oct: Ride Moab Trail X
10/Oct: Ride Moab Trail Y
11/Oct: Ride Moab Trail Z/Check out 24 hours of Moab (I'm not participating, but would like to go see what it's all about and check out the booths.)
12/Oct: Drive back to Encinitas.

I was just in the area. I recommend taking the drive over to Fruita and riding their great bicycle only single track. Its only about a 70 minute drive from Moab and there are several good camp grounds. If you ride Sovereign Trail, (outside of Moab) I recommend staying off of the new Salt Wash trail portion of Sovereign. There is lots of hike-a-bike through sand, and the motorcycles leave some bad ruts in the steep narrow descents.

Yes, you should drive over to Fruita and/or Grand Junction. Holy Cross, Horsethief Bench, Kessel Run, all awesome.

I would like to go to Fruita, but I'll have to see whether there's too much to ride in Moab first. If I'm bored, I'll probably search elsewhere, like Fruita, but I can only imagine that with all the options in Moab, I might not have time to get bored.

I went the same time about three years ago, well worth the trip. But as other have said you NEED to hit up Fuita. If I had to do the trip all over again I would have ridden slckrock on my way to Fruita and just stayed there. BTW I loved slickrock, it was like a giant natural skatepark.

Also the trails will be packed that weekend.
