From the Anza-Borrego Foundation: “Saturday, February 2, 2019 - 9:00am to 2:00pm $20/$15 for ABF Members Leaders: Jim Roller and Gary Haldeman, with interpretation by Mark Jorgensen Gary & Jim are at it again, this time with a ride through Lower Coyote Canyon from the end of the blacktop to Third Crossing and … continuing on through Collins Valley into Sheep Canyon. This is a strenuous 18+ mile ride that includes a 6 mile climb at the start through some sand, rocks, and water crossings. We will stop for a breather at the bottom of the Bypass Rd., a steep, extremely rocky climb most of us will walk at least part of the way. Our reward is the stunning view of Collins Valley once we crest the hill. Our ride continues down into Collins Valley and then up to Sheep Canyon, where we will snack and rest in preparation for our spectacular return (most of which is downhill). The ride out and the ride back provide completely differing riding and viewing experiences, both awesome. This ride is on the dirt road in Coyote Canyon, has rocky sections, sandy sections, and traverses through the various crossings of Coyote Creek. You will get at least your feet wet. We will stop at about four brief interpretive points of interest, with the one-and-only Mark Jorgensen, retired ABDSP Superintendent. This exceptional experience is only possible because we have agreed that no riders may ride down the Bypass Road; it is an extremely technical descent requiring a level of expertise we cannot require of our weekend warriors. All of us will walk our bikes down this stretch. Just like all of our bike rides, riders are REQUIRED to adhere to the following: -You must be wearing a helmet at all times -You must have at least one spare tube, and all the tools necessary to fix a flat -Your bike should be a mountain bike with a minimum of 26” x 2” tires (the fatter the better) -You should bring plenty of snacks and more water than you think you will need *If you do not come prepared with the above listed items, we reserve the right to turn you away to preserve the safety and enjoyment of the rest of the group.” https://theabf.org/bikes-brews-sheep-canyon-interpretive-ride/ |
