May we choose three out of the four?

Almost there. We spend the day preparing for next week. Six people came today. A little light but kind of expected since we have the big day next Saturday on the 31st.

We wanted to finish the brushing of the main corridor and tackle the connector for the lower trail so we have an easy project going forward. I made the decision to throw Rich and Ben under the bus and leave the main Lilac debrushing to them alone. The rest of us headed down to the bridge and worked up from there.

There is a concrete drainage ditch on the very edge of the slope that was creating a challenge so using the bridge already built and a little local building supply (rock and old utility pole) we build a connector we can be proud of.

Lots of reinforcement for longevity.

After we tackled a large swooping turn that will be a blast either direction. It will have some bank to it to help you keep speed and add a little Woo Hoo factor. It has a ways to go but you can see the bones.

Brian busting his butt on it.

Image

The next part of the trail should be very easy to cut. We ran a few test lines just to make sure it works.

We are ready for next week. Come on out and help us. We can use your help.

In. Sorry Matt for bailing on you today, but was knocked flat by food poisoning. Feeling much better now.

Were you laid low by a Kotija carne asada burrito? I ate one of those after the first day of trail work and had bubble guts before I made it back to my car.

I'm in for the last day . . . it's about time for another Kotija carne asada burrito cleanse.

Naw. I eat at Cotija all the time and I've never had an issue with their food.

Of all things to get sick on, this was from the PQ Rite Aid where I got a Thrifty ice cream cone. Who knows what biological vectors are growing at the bottom of those 5gal ice cream buckets. Both ends were evicting all contents in unison.

I guess if I was a touchy-feely new-age type I could say that I was on a "detox" regimen. I do think there are gentler methods out there, and this one is very unrecommended.

Please try to carpool/ride-share to the event.

There is parking but it appears to be a large event. Overflow parking will be available across Carmel Valley Road at the ball fields. Looking forward to see all of you Saturday. Chance of rain but it is very slight and tiny amounts. Besides, it will cool you off and make for easier digging. We are ready to go!!!!

I was really looking forward to the swag, grub & grog at this, since all I got from the earlier trail day was sore muscles*. But I have a family event that takes priority. I hope there is a good turnout for this actual real singletrack construction.

* Not true. I also got a sense of community, and satisfaction.

Update as of 1/29 Parking options

1 Glider port
2 Ball Fields
3 Miners Ridge lot - Use the new trail! It waits for you...

Remember to carpool if possible. We are looking at 80+ people right now. Parking will be a challenge if everybody does not ride share.
Other options - meet at Oak Valley Middle School parking lot near the corner of Dove Canyon and Carmel Valley Road.

Oak Valley Middle School parking lot

Pile into one car and shuttle up the hill to one of the lots.

Black Mountain Ranch Park (Ball fields) is located right across the street and should handle any overflow.
We might be building over there anyway (and hopefully)

The lone gnome has been busting his tail already
